Thats why I prefer Houston chains. Most of them are ethnic food rather than the usual burger and fries.

Many of them are Mexican chains with long histories in Houston like Ninfas
Or Greek Ones like Niko Nikos.
There are also many Vietnamese, chinese and Italian chains in Houston.

The American food that they do do, they do well though. Chains like Goode Co and Frenchys are always packed for a reason.

Lol even Timmy Chans are classic

No need. Your mention of Landry's and the like said it all.

Speaking of great food here in Houston, does anyone know of a really good Italian restaurant? Not Carraba's (although that's not bad), Olive Garden, etc., but the real honest-to-goodness thing? Like what you could get in Little Italy in NYC for example?

Seems like Houston (and Texas) will get better according to this article:

Texas’ economy is one of the strongest in the U.S., and its restaurant sector is no exception.
The Texas Restaurant Association said Dec. 11 that the National Restaurant Association’s 2013 Restaurant Industry Forecast projects Texas will be the leading state for sales growth in the sector next year.
Texas expected to lead nation in restaurant sector next year - Houston Business Journal

An Italian guy recommended an excellent Italian restaurant to me I forgot the name though. It's this little hole in the wall on Westheimar and Taft. It's across from Feast and next to the Hollywood convenience store. I think it's Luigis? It supposed to be really small and have like five seats in the whole place.

Good question. I'd love to read the article that explains that in depth. You know how this works, though. Anytime Houston is recognized for excelling in something, you have those one or two posters who make it their job to come in and put us in our place.
