Houston-Dallas could get $10 billion bullet train

Houston-Dallas could get $10 billion bullet train | Newswatch | a Chron.com blog

Quote:
Advocates for high-speed rail in Texas say the state’s first bullet train could connect Houston with Dallas-Fort Worth as early as 2020, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

A group including former Harris County Judge Robert Eckels, now president of Texas Central Railway, and representatives from Central Japan Railway Co. met Wednesday in Arlington to discuss plans to raise $10 billion from private investors to fund the project, which would allow passengers to travel between the two cities at 200 mph, the newspaper said.

Default Austin would have been better, and cheaper...

I think they should scale back and get a bullet train to Austin instead, I think it would be utilized more than one to Dallas. Imagine, 45 minutes to Austin? I bet many peolple would consider a move and commute if it went to Austin.

I agree with this. Houston to Austin would be a win for both cities. Houston-Dallas is a stronger business route though and would do well. No taxpayer money? As long as the fares are reasonable it would do well.

Houston to Dallas? That seems like a big waste considering the traffic on I-45 between the two cities isn't that bad and only takes about 3.5 hours to drive there.

So it is more of a usage Tax....does any tax money come out of the general funds either the U.S. or Texas?

The airports will fight it and kill it.
