Yes I agree. I wonder how many more loops will end up being built around Houston? Will Grand Parkway be a pretty wide road?

The Grand pkwy will be anywhere from 4-2 lanes total. some sections will be two lanes each direction and other will only be one lane in each direction (some areas may have 3 lanes each way in the future.

Most people are saying GP will be it. I tend to agree.

It is the only loop that services the rest of the metro. The other ones are for the most part in one county. The 9 other counties in the metro were kind of ignored by the loops before GP.

I don't think there will a need for any other loops to connect the present metro.
New highways may be a different story. I see a need for more infrastructure south of the city in the metro.

Ok. So will the sections with only 1 ln in each direction be built to freeway standards or be more like a street?

There isnt a section of the Grand Parkway that will be one lane in each direction. Minimum is two for the tollway.

Default Houston Grand Parkway information....

The Grand Parkway has been in planning for 50 years and some segments of it are already completed and in active use right now.

Here is a quote from the official Grand Parkway web site, which is online at: www.GrandPky.com

"State Highway 99 (SH 99, the Grand Parkway) is a proposed 180+ mile circumferential scenic highway traversing seven counties and encircling the Greater Houston region. The project has been shown on governmental planning documents since the early 1960's. Currently, the 19.5- mile Segment D, from US 59 near Sugar Land to IH 10 near Katy, has been constructed and serving as a toll free road open to the traveling public since August 31, 1994.

Additional Phase I of Segment I-2, from IH 10 (E) to FM 1405, is a 8.8 mile section of the highway that was opened to traffic on March 25, 2008. Phase 2 of Segment I-2 (FM 1405 to SH 146) is currently under design.

Other segments are in various stages of project development."

The sections like this will be the sections in Liberty county and are planned in a way that a four lane expansion could be easily done. it will still look like a highway when the other two lanes are added. Liberty county does plan to toll it from the beginning
