About 1950. Just the two of us. We use the other two bedrooms as offices. I am self-employed and she works at home a lot.

1100 in the main part of the house with 500 more in the finished part of the basement. I guess mine is a 3/2 although the second bathroom is off the family room in the basement.

1806 sf with 3 bedrooms & 1.5 baths. Basement is an additional 480 sf. 2 adults, 1 85 pound dog, and 2 cats call this place home. We use 1 bedroom as an office and the other as a guest room.

On retiring I built my own bi-level home (1450 sq ft). Full bath upstairs. Sink/John room next to my computer room and a john in the garage so I do not have to walk into the house on a need bassis.

Since my kids do not visit here in Mexico the place is a waste since I'm by myself. Would like to have a place 1/2 this size...less cleaning and less furniture.

I use 1 Bedroom...another for my extra stuff...two extra com****rs etc...plus a com****r room...TV room...large combo kitchen/dining/social room with a lge fireplace...upstairs over the garage the full bath and two rooms...one lge and one medium with picture windows overlooking the pacific ocean.

What else could a person ask for? Am I happy with this set up?...answer is NO...being one person...too much room...then again a person has things in mind that do not always materialize...positive thoughts that do not always work out as a person would hope for.

We live and learn...don't we.

Steve

Building our house now, we are moving from a 2950 sq ft home to a 4066 sq ft home, with 5 bedrooms and 4.5 baths. Have two boys and have family visiting all the time. This house will be it for us, until the boys go off to college...

A little over 3200 sf of livable space, 2 people, 4 bathrooms, 3 beds, two family rooms, exercise room and not including a very large screened in porch....large back yard, medium sized front yard...this is our retirement home...the home we sold last year is where we lived for 24 years and raised our 3 boys - it was 1700 sf with a 600 sf basement that was used for storage.

Surprisingly we don't feel our current home is too large for 2 people - it is just right for us and for entertaining which we love to do.

Just short of 3000sf; 3bdrm, 2.5 bath, both formals, kitchen & breakfast area; 2 adults, 2 small kids.

TOO big for us.

Our first house was 700sf, 2nd was 1400 and last was 2700sf.

We're currently looking at buying a new construction that is priced to sell for 2300sf (3-4bdrm, 2.5 bath) because it's considered too small for most families. Good for us!

I have gotten used to having 4 bdrms with 1 used as office, 1 as guest room & 1 as nursery so I do like that configuration but have found our last 2 current houses a little to big in the living areas.

1,200 sq ft...3 bedrooms, 2 full baths. Every room is "small" by most standards...the bathrooms are 4'x5', the master bedroom is 12'x12' and the single-car garage limits the size of any car I may want to buy. But I love my house. I've been able to re-model and re-decorate to make it just what I want for relatively little $$$.

Although I love my house, the area is not great. I'd move if I could find a house this size in a better neighborhood. Why dont builders address the market for affordable small houses for single adults?

2 people in 3200 sf?!! Who cleans that thing? And 4 bathrooms?! You must have some huge parties in that thing.

The house I've lived in since 1993 is where my parents raised myself and two other children. It has two-stories, 4 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, and 1 half bathroom that was added on in 1996; a living room, and a combined kitchen / dining room (is this trashy?). There is a basement which roughly is the same size as the area of the first floor, but it is uninhabitable and is used for storage, as well as for our washer, dryer, and a large freezer. In addition, there's a 4-car detached garage (yes, 4 cars) that was already on the property, originally wood-heated but not with a diesel heater and a dilapidated barn we use for storing stuff. We have 5.7 acres of land but we always could "roam" onto our neighbors' plots of property, so it was like living in a park.

When I was a lot younger, I really wanted a bigger house; many of my friends in my suburban part of my semi-affluent town had 2000, 2500 square foot houses. However, I eventually got over this. The master and two other bedrooms are decent sized, one is small; however, they all have closets. I do have a problem with overflowing paper and other stuff I don't really use at all, which I ought to find a decent way of storing more compactly or getting rid of. At one point we actually had six people (my brother's friend) living here; now with my dad passed away, we have three adults (my mother, I, 23, and my brother, 20) and one teenager in the house. Soon I will be leaving as well.

We actually had several Easters here with my mom's family over, which is fairly large (she's one of seven children). I kind of liked the crowding when we entertained, but it was never too congested, and the kids would often play in my sister's or my room, or outside. I'm guessing parties here were better than parties at the house my aunt used to own, which was very "entertainment-minded" in that they had a huge living room but tiny bedrooms. There was nowhere to get away from the main room there!

Contrary to the supposed "need" for as many (or more) bathrooms as bedrooms, we've for the most part been fine. When we had one full bathroom, it was kind of annoying having to wait for the bathroom; in 1996, when I was 9 years old, we did a fairly large remodel and put a half-bathroom (toilet and sink) upstairs where part of my room used to be. This reduced the area of my room by about 25%, but paid off in convenience. At times, my family members used the shower for a ridiculous amount of time, keeping me out of the shower; however, when the house was built, until 2002, this was not a concern, as we could only take 4-5 minute showers before our well risked running out of water. We dug a new well in 2002. When we entertained there did not seem to be any bathroom issues, but again all of our entertaining, or almost all, was non-alcoholic.

1560 sq ft. It's a single story 3/2 that we remodeled and added 200 sq ft to when the kids were still young. It was small as far as family homes go but there is great outdoor space so it never felt too crowded, and we always figured it woud be a good retirement home as well. Central living room, bedrooms/baths on one side and kitchen/dining/family room on the other. It feels too big now. On my own I'd be happier with a 2/2 setup with around 1,000 sq ft.
