Maybe this is too simple, but our phones have intercoms on them. We bought a set of phones (6) at Costco and use the intercom i.e. #1 kitchen #2 garage #3 workshop #4 basement #5 family room #6 master bedroom. Cost was about $69.99.
Problem is that the only real benefit I see in having the installed intercom is the ability to speak to the front door. Also, if you remove the old system you need to do drywall patching and repainting the walls.... if you have to do that in every room and hire professional painters you haven't saved any money.
we bought a new base and also had to replace every speaker.....ordered it online thru Ebay.....then hired an electrician to install. The whole thing cost us about $500.
Impressive. I have a system in my house, I get some static when using them. We used it for a while to pipe music through the house until it stopped working. I looked into getting a new system base with a CD player and they want about $1,000 for them, and that's not counting replacing the speakers in the rooms.

Ad says "For parts or not working". Thanks but not thanks. I do see some units for around $300 though.
