Problem is that the only real benefit I see in having the installed intercom is the ability to speak to the front door. Also, if you remove the old system you need to do drywall patching and repainting the walls.... if you have to do that in every room and hire professional painters you haven't saved any money.

I'd continue using it, but then again we're looking for an old ('50s/'60s) intercom for our midcentury modern house.

Impressive. I have a system in my house, I get some static when using them. We used it for a while to pipe music through the house until it stopped working. I looked into getting a new system base with a CD player and they want about $1,000 for them, and that's not counting replacing the speakers in the rooms.
