I'm not familiar with the neighborhood names ... the following map can give you some areas to look in. Then if you get a house that interests you, you can click on the "Get Directions" on the left side of the map below and enter the house address. Then you can see how far the house is from the Swamp Rabbit (Green line).

Have they reopened that closed off section of the trail yet or are they just going to leave it closed off forever?

See this recent article from GSA Business dated 7/7/2010.

Note the last 4 paragraphs. Looks like things will be resolved soon.

According to the trail's FB page:

"GHS Swamp Rabbit Tram Trail expansion to Conestee Nature Park to be complete by 2012… safety issues along the active rail line "will soon be resolved"… and land adjacent to the trail is expected to soar in value. Our community's bunny trail ROCKS!"

Nice blog post:

Weekend Trip to Greenville, SC | Bike Baltimore

Quote:
When I saw Greenville listed on the League of American Bicyclists’ Bicycle Friendly Community list, I was more than perplexed. This weekend, I returned to Greenville to find a completely different city.

Here's the latest I know ... it looks like a reroute is in the works. The temporary YouTube reroute on W. Washington is a bit beyond my personal danger level.

Quote:
· GCRD had successful meetings with SC DOT and the railroad about the safety issues at Bramlett Road this week. We are in agreement on the location of the new alignment. Thank you to everyone that gave me their ideas. In a nutshell the path will be re-routed closer to Bramlett Road which will improve sightlines for trail users and provide affordable access to install the flashing warning signals required for the trains.

· Until this re-route is built, crossing the railroad tracks is prohibited. Someone has posted a You Tube video of a re-route along the roads.
YouTube - ‪Swamp Rabbit Trail Detour‬‎. Please respect the concerns of the railroad on their private property and use this re-route. Tell others to do the same.

I've heard from the City that things were getting close on a fix for the problem.

Furthermore, there should no longer be a City cop at the crossing, as it's not their jurisdiction....
