Not sure if race goes hand in hand with a sexual orientation/preference. But anyways, people do seem to make a deal about sexual orientation/preferences as well as make a deal about those who dare themselves to not support them. Goes both ways.

While opposition to homosexual and interracial relationships are too very different things, how about trying to understand what some of the reasons might be rather than a liberal knee jerk reaction.

I suspect many parents of any race who oppose interracial relationships for their kids fear it could lead to pregnancy/marriage. That will mean their grandkids will be of a different race, and may wind up being raised with different cultural values, religion, etc.
They also know life will be harder on their kids and future grandkids, so why would any parent want that.

The similarity to homosexuals has at least one common thread in that no parent is going to want their kid to turn out homosexual. The obvious reason is no future offspring. They also know life will be tougher on them as a result.

From there it should not be too hard to extrapolate why society shuns such behavior and hopes that disapproval might stigmatize it enough to curb it. Granted that applies to interracial more than homo because some people are likely born homosexual.

There of course could be other reasons as well. So just because it is not PC to say so, people do have their reasons and cannot just be all lumped together as bigots if you wish to really understand their reason/s.

You're on the wrong track, or at least a track that the train left quite some time ago.

For most of my adult life I lived in Virginia. Virginia. Virginia. Very few people, at least in northern Virginia pay any attention anymore to interracial relationships or marriages. As a retired school principal there, things changed a great deal over the years. When I first moved there the kids were fairly divided along racial lines. Nowadays, that's pretty much overlooked by the younger generations.

I know plenty of parents who want their kids happy. If that means accepting they are gay, they do.

I am reminded about a line in the film "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" when Sidney Poitier's character is talking to his father and says something along the lines of not being free until their whole generation is dead and gone. That pretty well sums it up.

As to a better source, if something is legit, it is easy to find unless people are lazy.

As to my assumption vs. yours, many people who are not right wing by any stretch of the imagination do not approve of either of the threads topics. This includes many left wingers and/or minorities.
Are we at a point here where we much cite references at the level of a research paper?
