Well, I love Chicago, but that is all IL really offers in my opinion. So, had to go with Michigan. It has lovely scenery, my family, Grand Rapids, Lake Michigan and much more! Driving through the length of IL is soooo boring. How many cornfields can you possibly pass?
If it's a question of jobs, career, and the economy, then of course you'd go with Illinois. That and Chicago is really all that Illinois has going for it compared to Michigan.
Michigan is by far the more interesting state. Michigan has gobs and gobs of Great Lakes shoreline, Isle Royale National Park, and lots of inland lakes and forests.
Now, if only Michigan's economy could become one of the nation's average economies and if Detroit could become a first rate city, then Michigan would be a great state. I've heard that Grand Rapids (second largest city) is also very nice, but I've never been there.
wow, this may be the only thread where everyone seems to TOTALLY agree! lol
Michigan is physically gorgeous! Southern Illinois is all corn.
But we'd all go broke in Michigan.
While I agree that Michigan is a more beautiful state, it should be noted that not ALL of Illinois is cornfields. Sure, most of the central parts are indeed cornfields, but what else are you to do with some of the worlds richest/finest soil?
People need to venture off the highways in IL to find the beauty, and there is lots of it.
Hope this shows a little of the beauty that can be found in IL. Those that travel the highways only probably think all of IL is cornfields, which is not the case.
Nice pics, Steve, but I've gotta agree once more with many of the above posters:
I love Chicago, but as a state prefer Michigan.
Me too. MI is, IMO, one of the most beautiful states in this nation, definitely in my top 10. Its just a shame that most people think IL is all cornfields and not much else.
