I have a corn plant about 7 yrs old. All the leaves are brown however the stalk still has some green. It looks like some of the bark on the tree is in the top of the pot, almost like something is eating at it. What can I do to bring it back to life? This tree means a lot to me and my mother did not care for it when I was moving.
The bark could have fallen off or if there's something eating it, you should be able to see evidence such as the bugs themselves (teeny black dots perhaps) or spider-web-like or cottony "strings" or blobs.
But if the tree is just dried out from no water or is saturated by over-watering, and the leaves are completely dry and crackly and completely brown, I'd cut the leaves off near the trunk and then start watering the tree as you usually did.
What may occur is that the trunk will no longer grow leaves, but a new trunk may grow from the roots. My original trunk died and a baby grew in its place (now 10'+ tall).
my plant seems to have new growth, 12-16 inches long coming out of the very top of plant....looks like small type buds...
I have had this plant 8 years and have never seen this before...What is it
