I am using up leftovers tonight. I have some of last night's pasta, ham, spinach casserole(so good) and some ribs from the other night. I also have some more corn on the cob which we are thoroughly sick of. I will not buy anymore until next season I think.

Tonight is baking night. Friends asked for spicy crackers for Sunday's party of 25. Oven will be hot so chicken fingers or enchiladas.

having friends in for wine and snacks so dinner will either be nothing or whatever I can find that is easy and quick. I might do pulled pork sandwiches if spoiled brat is still hungry after they leave.

We are having unseasonably cool weather in Dallas (84 today). I still am not cooking as I've got some work to do tonight.

I had corn dogs and DH had hot dogs, we both enjoyed the broccoli salad I picked up at the grocery store.
Just read a note from chessgeek prompting me to answer you, Debsi! It's MN, the (ahem) largest State Fair in the U.S.

Bachelor Son just got back from a working stint in Forth Worth and said the heat had been spectacular. Hope it cools off for you soon.

We ended up staying home for the second time this week. Good thing we did as there were two major games, the Fair and the DOT had temporarily closed a much-traveled freeway tunnel. I heard the traffic back-up was something to "wine" about. Not much of an issue for me as I just people watch but I know how hard that is on the driver.

Now all that's left is the holiday weekend and the decision is to brave the crowds or not brave the crowds.

I'm going out to lunch with my Friday crossword pal which usually means a Culver's turtle sundae. That could leave supper up for grabs. I have a recipe for tomato quiche and all the ingredients at the ready. Still working on using up the surplus tomatoes and are they ever nice this year!

Two nature scavenging notes.

I've found a stand of wild chokecherries and they are ready for jelly making. Trying to decide if I want to go through the production for a couple of half pints.

My back yard sumac has produced enough berries for about a gallon of beverage. Pondering whether I give it a try as I've always wanted to do or leave them for the birdies.

Tonight is going to be "fishy." Baked tilapia in a lemon cream sauce, linguine with clams and shrimp, garlic toast, and the leftover gingerbread with whipped cream for dessert. I hope everyone has a fun and wonderful holiday weekend!

Grilling tri-tip steaks tonight, with mashed potatoes and salad on the side.
