For those who never saw it, the Automat was a human vending machine. There was a wall of little glass doors. You'd insert the money and take out the item you just purchased. Behind that wall was the kitchen, and the people who were cooking to replace what you just took. It was a wonderful experience!

Cheesy lines? Absolutely. I hate to BRAGHE, but as an AMERICAN, I sit here in my COTTAGE and try my best to provide great lines. Sometimes, people who might be thick as a BRICK don't get it, but the even average FARMER can sometimes see the humor. A STRING of good cheese lines would be a challenge for those who don't know JACK about cheese. But TELEME another place you can go to find a good cheesy conversation these days without someone getting your GOAT.

That's exactly the way it worked. My father would give me "a handful of nickels" and I could buy my own dinner ... until my friends and I started to go without our fathers and their pockets full of change. Then it was "ketchup soup".
What's Velveta ? Apologies for being an ignorant foreigner but I don't recall ever having it even when I lived in the US.
Moose, I would add that Velveeta's most popular uses at our house are melted over cauliflower, mixed with salsa and melted into nacho cheese dip, and in good old macaroni and cheese. It's super creamy when you melt it.
Its not the same thing.......but it makes me think of some sushi bars in Japan (a great one in the Narita airport) where they have a conveyor belt that runs around the counter where customers sit......the sushi chef in the kitchen makes and plates a wide assortment of sushi and sashimi and puts them on the conveyor.....customers sitting at the counter....take off one at a time and have wasabi and soy sauce and ginger pickle naps and chop sticks at their seat....I think green tea as well. When you have eaten all you want....the waitress tally's your bill based on the # and color of the plates......different sushi is served on different color plates. (You can run up a substantial bill in short order.)
A chef is working in the middle island also and if you want something special...you just call it out and he will cut it for you, plate it and send it around.
oh I love and miss those sushi bars, there are a couple in my old home town - my fave lunch treat was to try out everything possible in 20 minutes! They used to have lots of special deals so the price wasn't too bad. If you are ever in the UK check them out... YO! Sushi - YO! Events

I am glad you mentioned that butternut squash.....I bought an acorn squash recently at a garden stand.....some day soon I want to be making that....maybe with meatloaf or some other oven meal.
Plain broccoli or bleu cheese & walnut green beans on the side.
