Orlando area ranks last in the nation in pedestrian safety, and presence of bicycle or pedestrian lanes, and crosswalks. Although Gainesville, FL (university town) is excellent.

Davis, CA (university town near Sacramento) and Palo Alto, CA are among the best cities in the entire nation for bicycle lanes/ safety.

All - I'm talking about roads mainly. Roads, sidewalks, clean and manicured streets, etc.

in LA, unless you're in Beverly Hills, the roads are terrible, dirty, etc.

I don't have experience with California, so I cannot make a judgment. However, I have seen Florida ranked high on the quality of its roads. Quality meaning having a smooth ride.

These two links are more total infrastructure related. Florida ranks well.

California is #3. Florida is not mentioned.
Quality for what we do have is special but not especially noteworthy given the lack of road infrastructure in general in relation to population and growth. I would imagine the economics of maintaining inadequacies is probably a good bit more favorable.

The issue in California is the pension system is so out of whack, it was constantly on local news. Some government employees were getting over $200k yearly pensions for the rest of their lives. That’s where much of the money IMO goes and why we always increased fees and taxes but never really saw it.

Because California wastes its money on stupid $hit, while presumably Florida allocates it appropriately
