Rubbish. If men are "hardwired" for certain so-called "preferences," why have those "preferences" changed so much over time? Why do they vary considerably from culture to culture today, even within the US?
For example, African-American cultures in the US tend to be FAR less weight-obsessed than the mainstream white culture. Many women who the majority of white men would call "fat" and find unattractive are called "thick" and considered desirable by the majority of African-American men.
It has been noted that Marliyn Monroe, who was held up as the ideal of female beauty in the 1940s and 1950s would be "too fat" to get a modeling job today.
If we are all "hard wired " for certain "preferences," why are some men drawn to tall, willowy blondes while others are drawn to petite Asian women?
Not to be graphic, but today, many young men consider it mandatory that women remove all their pubic hair. This was not so in my generation (I am 43). We just took it for granted that grown women's bodies looked like grown women's bodies. Some women removed their hair, some didn't. But it just wasn't an issue. If a "preference" for no pubic hair is "hard wired," how can this be?
About because of the popularity of pornography? Many Black men have an attraction to "thick women" mainly because that is what is prevailant in their circles. Many European men tend to go the other way since they control the media to the whims of their preferences this is what is promoted.
Have you ever heard of genetics? It has a massive influence on the kind of person you will become

Yea, I get that.
Point is, people should not conclude that their romantic preference is not influenced by society simply because it either does not align with what the media portrays as attractive, or the opinion of their friends.
Again, we can't spontaneously develop preferences. It's not physically possible.

I would like to think it's way more complicated than that.
I see your point capital, Genetics does determine your intelligence and looks etc. But it doesnt determine what is good or bad. Or right or wrong.
Eh... I'd be cautious about how much we ascribe to genetics determining all our traits. Biological determinism was widely held throughout Europe and the United States until the Nazi's in Germany became even more enthusiastic about it. Then it began to fall out of favor. Some states in the United States were still sterilizing girls and women into the 1970s for being "feeble minded" and poor.
Our environment plays a role in our intelligence and looks too. A malnourished child, especially born to poor and uneducated parents, is very unlikely to find upward academic mobility by entering college and later a graduate program.
Most if not all your "brightest" adults were surrounded by appropriate influences very early in age. This is true of Warren Buffet.
Diet and exposure to sun rays can effect the looks of a person too. So can exercises, lifting weights, or taking growth hormones. Psychological stress is known to gray peoples hair or even make them look like they've aged beyond their years. Meth addiction is know to alter peoples looks too--not for the better.
In terms of IQ averages you'll probably find the mean average is higher in European countries than they are in Latin America and Africa.
Biological determination (also biologism) is the interpretation of humans and human life from a strictly biological point of view, and it is closely related to genetic determinism. Another definition is that biological determinism is the hypothesis that biological factors such as an organism's individual genes (as opposed to social or environmental factors) completely determine how a system behaves or changes over time.
Consider certain human behaviors, such as having a particular taste in music, committing murder, or writing poetry. A biological determinist would posit that such behaviours, and personality traits in general, are mediated primarily by biological factors, such as genetic makeup. An extreme variant of biological determinism might assert that an organism's behavior is determined entirely by biological factors, and that all of these factors are innate to that organism e.g. DNA. By asserting that biological factors are the primary determinants of behaviour, biological determinism implies of course that non-biological factors, such as social customs, expectations and education, have less or no effect on behaviour.
Genes are important factors and have their roles but I'm not sure geneticists have put sociologists, cultural anthropologists, and psychologists out of business yet.
