Misogyny? Society accepts that men age poorly and doesn't expect men to look forever youthful, but there's still a tendency to only value women for their looks, or to make that of primary importance. Women have been devalued since ancient times, when they were valued higher than men, for their ability to keep the tribe going by adding new generations to it. The tribe would die out without those precious wombs.

Right or wrong, the point is that the women are responding by going to do things that make them more attractive. Whether it’s to meet society’s expectations or to increase their chances of finding a better mate. In both cases they are doing it for themselves to reap the benefits of acceptance or a better mate. Both are beneficial to the women in the end.
They could just say I’m not going to do it at all, I’m just going to be myself, but they will have to accept the consequences of being less attractive.
The people who say women don’t do cosmetic surgery for others but for themselves are looking past the fact that if they didn’t care what others thought, why do it at all? it would put them at a disadvantage in society so in claiming it’s for themselves it really is doing it for themselves by making them feel better about where they are in society and socially.
If someone is fat, losing weight could be for themselves and for others. It’s healthier for themselves but also doing it to please others by looking better.

Ofc...we show off what we look like by makeup, stylish clothing, & staying in shape. It’s super fun & has nothing to do with the dysfunction it would take to pick plastic surgery over a degree & a good job....because they think it’s more economical. Who does that? Smart & successful men that are worth marrying IMO...don’t marry us just for our boobs or body. edit: It’s common relationship sense. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It is more about youth than good looks. An average looking 25 year old is more likely to get the job than a very attractive 55 year old (with all other things being equal).

With today's algorithms in job applications, there is no getting around age discrimination.

it probably would have been more economical if my wife would have learned HVAC repair, plumbing, electrical work, etc. instead of college and grad school. her working career was relatively short so that education didnt really pay off as far as ROI is concerned but it would be nice if she could fix things around the house.

but then we wouldnt have met so i guess it did have a good ROI for her.

Isn't it human nature for men to pay more attention to women's looks vs our education due to things like childbearing, for example?

Omg. You are clueless. Just because you think that that is how reality should be according to you doesn’t mean that is how the rest of the world is.
Plenty of smart and successful men marry trophy wives. Instead of imagining what men like, you really should ask them what they like and get the real answers. Yep a lot of men I know say they were really attracted to a women because they wear stylish clothing. Most men don’t give a rip on what a women wears as long as its presentable.
Showing off what you look like with make up. Now that’s funny. If anything make up hides what you look like. It’s basically a lie.
Yeah I know. Now you going to say that’s old fashioned again. Your favorite expression to put something down.

Yes. Men look for looks whereas women look for looks, but Also men’s power, success, income.
Many men will marry down because of looks. Women don’t marry down. They marry up. It’s been that way for a long time. The quandary women are in is that they become better educated, get higher paying jobs with status and have a harder time finding quality men. A businessman may marry a waitress, but you won’t see a woman ceo marrying a plumber.

I am glad that folks with your stereotype mindset are somewhat limited in numbers.
