An educated populace is bad news for conservative ideologies.

So true. Obama is grateful that he was given the opportunity to succeed and understands that many students slip through the cracks. He also realizes that many people will never get into schools like Columbia or Harvard but, if for one second, he hinted that he's smarter than the average bear, the Republicans would be calling him a lot more than a snob. They'd be calling him uppity and Lord knows what else. He can't say anything positive in the eyes of the Republican candidates and their supporters.

Absolutely...a wonderful post. Never in my life as a political junkie have I heard a politician state that for parents to want a better life for their descendants is "snobbery;" it has always been the cornerstone of the "American Dream." Anyone who would bother to read Dreams From My Father would know how difficult it was for President Obama to encounter the racism of the Mainland...he didn't have a niche that covered his unique background. As America comes to terms with the reality of its multiculturalism, we're lucky to have a leader who has lived it and understands it.

You're slick, Ms C. - Have you a law degree also? LOL But, perhaps Rick Santorum's Faith and Christian life supercedes that dirty ole law degree. Haven't seen ANY evidence that be the case...in BO's 'case.'

I bet everyone in China wished they could vote in this election this year--They would LOVE to get this guy in office. With Santorium in office; our kids would continue to be inferior in academia compared to other nations And we would not be self sufficient because no one in his world would have a degree--they would just work with their hands as he suggested. We would continue to heavily rely on China and go into debt because no one in his cabinet would be smart enough to calculate that.

So Rick,I see the man in the downtown area holding up a sign begging for work or for money daily--he is working with his hands. Is that what Santorium wants with for our kids? Yes Santorium wants you to not get a degree and pan handle as the way for the future. Do you know how many nations are laughing at us?? This is an embarassment for the U.S.

Those guys are outliers... geniuses in their own right. Using them as examples not to go to college is just short of crazy. BTW, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg did attend college at one point. Gates himself have pledged billions to fund education programs for kids around the world. He is one of the most pro-education persons on the planet. There is hardly anything Santorum supports that Bill Gates agrees with and vice-versa.

Let's add Laurene Powell Jobs to the list. She's been involved in promoting education for years. *The Jobs family never advertised their philanthropy. Steve was also a college dropout. All these guys are all geniuses.

I don't know why there is such an argument about this. Obama asked people to "promise" (terrible choice of words though) to attend at least one year of College, Community College, Technical or Vocational school. That's it. Sure not everybody has to go to college or technical school but to make this a campaign issue is stupid.
