That works out to cost the United States 328,767,123 dollars a day. A DAY.
That is if it is still 10 billion. I read something recently that said 14 billion...can't find it, though. Oh well.

As of a few seconds ago.. the population of the US was estimated to be 303,909,489 people.

Do you see the correlation?
I see that an old proverb needs an update . . .

[war] crime does not pay.

so if all that effort and billzion$ had been spent on food production and renewable energy . . . .

The odd thing is - I planted a little wheat patch this year in our large garden, mostly out of curiosity. I will be planting oats as well, shortly.

FWIW, There is an out-of-print book on small scale raising grain that is now in huge demand. The paperback of it, used, starts at about $140, and I expect it to double if a new edition doesn't come out soon.

Boy, I'm so glad that every year more and more acres of some of the best apple growing land in central Washington is being converted to golf courses and wineries. And that we're paving over our dairy farms in western washington for subdivisions and big box retailers.

Food shortages are going to happen when you subsidize the burning of your crops for inefficient biofuels (corn ethanol) in the name of modern Druidism (aka Global Warming).

They also happen when consumption of a particular crop like corn skyrockets due to the reliance of food manufacturers on it as a source of oils, sugars. Especially when just about every processed and pre-packaged food uses corn in some manner, and when consumers are buying more and more pre-packaged foods every year.

You guys might want to start thinking about hydroponics. You can do that, even in a apartment complex.

I think you're making the assumption that the United States will allow citizens to leave the country if things got bad enough. Yeah, I'm serious. A lot of laws can be passed for "the common good" and to show the illusion of confidence.

There's also the alternative to make it look like we're still free to leave.

You can leave with only the shirt on your back. No physical and monetary assets.
