I mentioned in another post about, Victory Gardens that were very popular during World War ll. Those were semi-sweet days. The war going on, but having our own little or big garden to be proud of. Remembering grandma having her morning coffee and being able to talk to the neighbors on all "4" sides. 2 in the back and one on each side. Sharing recipes, and garden tips. We pulled the weeds in the morning when the dew was still on the ground. It made it easy. Grandma lived in the city with a small backyard where every bit of it was cultivated. I do container planting, with trellis for string beans. Has anyone tried that new on TV upside down planting? The containers are upside down with the plants hanging out.
This is simply not true. There are many areas of the northern tier of the US that are sparsely populated and could sustain large populations if proper planning is instituted for compact communities with higher densities. These areas are far from being uninhabitable and enjoy some of the highest qualities of life in national surveys. The same is true with many parts of Canada as well. Brazil and other southern South American countries could better utilize available space and sustain larger populations with responsible growth and planning. Russia and the Ukraine are other possibilities as well.
You don't have to clear cut the forests and give every man his own acre to achieve a quality lifestyle. I'd be happy to live in a pedestrian-friendly, fairly self-contained community containing quality higher density residences.
I don't know where ypou live but around me that is more l;and that is forest and rich soil than the areas that are popualted. But in any crisis the worse place to be is in a urban area, Grow a garden ;you better guard it with firearms in a urban if there are food shortages. Shades of New Orleans and other areas when there is crisis. Mob rule.
Not in Britain or the USA, though...if you look at obesity levels.
