As an owner of another relatively rare breed, most breeders probably charge about the same amount. Any attempt at price shopping will probably not get you a pup. Also since they are rare, the chances of finding one in a shelter or rescue are extremely remote, and that is because the breeders will insist on taking back any dogs that don't work out with the new owners. They will often re-home older pups or adults though, and you can get these less expensively.
I agree with what was stated above, get to shows and talk to breeders. Also, you can go to infodog.com and look up breed counts to make sure they will be there. Breed counts are posted about 2 weeks before the show date. Then about a week after that, they'll post the ring times. Good luck!
the bichon is a real sweet dog. One reason a good breeder charges alot is they do
testing b4 they breed. The bichon, also saw many so called puppy mill breeders after J R won the dog show. try also looking at small paws rescue. I was thinking of a king charles spaniel, however they were 2000 to 2600. the australian terrier also is a real nice dog.
Make sure you buy a bichon from a reliable breeder.SIL bought one from a pet shop, likely from a mill, that thing only lived about 10 years and they spent thousands on health problems, skin, knees, eyes, back, neck. Finally had to be put to sleep from some cervical neck thing I never heard of. Good with kids though. Though a word of caution, they waited too long to have it fixed, it was a male and it never got out of the spraying habit. It weeeed on everything when it was outside. (and sometimes inside). Make sure a male is spayed.
