I love pictures of Downtown from that era. No really tall building, but the buildings looked really nice, and everything was well filled in.
It had an urban look and feel. My dad said it felt like a big city back then, with its trolley system and all. He grew up in the '40s.

Ah yes, the 'ol meat market clubs! Who could forget Thrills, too? Great complimentary chow line every night, and volleyball outside. If you wanted to "slum it" a little, Bogart's was just a stone's throw down Leetsdale! Or a young guy could go a cougarin' down at the Proof...

There used to be a Bar/Lounge called Boz Scaggs near Leetsdale if I remember right.. It was in a stripmall and used to be packed every weekend......

Anyone know the place I am talking about.. It wasn't huge but always had customers.....

Default Mexican restaurant under the big fake tree at Villa Italia Mall?

Does anyone remember the Mexican Restaurant under the big fake weeping willow tree at Villa Italia Mall? I think it was called El Charrito but I could be wrong. I used to love their beef enchiladas as a kid.

Yup - Thrills later became Jimmy'z. Further down Leetsdale/Parker was Panama Red and Packard's. Tiffany Plaza had Knick's for us young'ns, Proof of the Pudding for the 30's/40's crowd, and if you struck out at those clubs, across the parking lot was Turn of the Century where you could always count on a blue hair to scramble your eggs for breakfast.

Grew up in BV and graduated from Kennedy in '94 (was a great neighborhood). I miss all those listed as well as the Cinderela Drive-In Movie complex and The Organ Grinder on Colfax (loved the old black-n-white movies and the huge organ upon entering) Oddly don't remember the food really just the atmosphere.
