I'm not sure where the 'official' temperature comes from - I suspect it comes from some place like the DFW airport. I doubt Weather Underground is the official source.

You're right... Here in Houston some of the Weather Underground's weather station readings couldn't be further from the truth. Some readings are even laughable, at best.

All U.S. cities use a weather station maintained by the National Weather Service for current and historical temps. In Houston that is Bush Intercontinental and in Dallas I believe its DFW Airport, like you said.

For those of you who want to see records and day-to-day temps you can navigate around the following:

NWS Ft. Worth Texas

It is DFW Airport for official readings, and yesterday's high was officially 100 degrees, marking our 68th day above 100 this summer (1 day shy of 1980!)

Here is another interesting link about this summer. AMAZING how many record Lows we set! Note: information only runs through August 31st on this, so it is not totally updated

Excellent! 1 day shy of tying the record. We need 2 more days. Come on baby...

Very informative link!

Thanks for the link. The lows this summer have been amazing. One record that I am happy we are nowhere close to breaking is the number of days with high of 105 F or more.

Actually, the link in his post was to Weather Underground's report on the KDFW station which is official. You can see on this link for KDAL below the stats, it says it's not an official NWS station.

Well it's finally over - for a while anyways. Within about 6 hours the temp will drop below 70 for the first time since May 27. Despite being gone almost the whole month of July, the only thing I can think of to say about all that is "wow - that sucked".

And even some of the official stations are jokes.
