Hi All,

I need some advice on a road trip. We are Driving to Bentonville Arkansas from Dallas on saturday & coming back on Sunday. Is there anything special to see on this route like Park, scenic drive or wild life, for the whole family. If someone traveled on this route before, please share your opinion.

Thanks in advance

Go this way.

Dallas - Bonham - Paris - Idabel OK - Broken Bow OK (Broken Bow Lake is the prettiest lake in this part of the country) - stay north on Highway 259 'til it ends then take 270 towards Heavener (it's a left turn) wind your way to 271 east through/by Ft. Smith and then take 71 (the old road not I540) north to Greenland and then cut over to I540 into Bentonville.

That's a lot of turns and all but most of that drive is beautiful.

Cautions:
1. Top off your gas tank in Idabel or Broken Bow.
2. North of Smithville OK 259 becomes very steep downhill with serious switchbacks. If you car does not have good breaks take another route.

Stops:
1. Broken Bow Lake - just do it.
2. Anywhere, that's a stop, along 259 going down the mountain or at the bottom. You'd think you were in Europe.
3. There are numerous potential stops along 271 in Arkansas.

If you choose to go interstate only through Texas I would recommend stopping through Sulphur Springs and checking out the glass bathrooms in the square downtown (Very strange but still pretty cool). Also, Juan Pablo's is a great cheap tex-mex restaurant if you're there during lunch.

All glass bathroom first of its kind in ETX and U.S. - KLTV.com-Tyler, Longview, Jacksonville, Texas | ETX News

Devil's Den State Park (off Hwy 71 between Ft. Smith and Fayetteville) is worth a stop and would be a great spot for a picnic lunch. Great hiking trails, too.

Are you going to visit Crystal Bridges while you're in Bentonville?

Historic places in Arkansas - Historic Washington State Park

This park is just off the interstate at Hope, AR. The tavern there serves delicious, home style lunches for a very reasonable price! The largest magnolia tree in Arkansas is in the park, too.
