The wife wants to drive to Billings late summer. Eventually see Yellowstone. Any advice, routes, warnings, pitfalls, interesting things to see on the way?
Thanks, all.

As a kid, my family and I made the trip from Albuquerque to Butte, MT (west of Billings) almost every summer. From Dallas, I would suggest heading west to Denver and then north from there for a more scenic route. Billings has a few antique shops in the downtown area, and an old railroad station that has been made into a restaurant tourist area that is nice. I would suggest eating at Famous Dave's for great BBQ in Billings. Billings is not what you'd call a pretty place, but if you head west toward Bozeman, it gets a lot more scenic. You can access Yellowstone along the way. West Yellowstone is a fun little town, great place to hang out for a while. They have cute little cabins for rent all over town too. Then if you head even farther west from Bozeman, you can go to Butte, which is an old copper mining city - used to be called the "Richest Hill on Earth". My parents and grandparents grew up there, so I know the area well. A fun place to stay is the Clark Mansion - used to be owned by the copper magnate William Clark (his daughter Henretta Clark just died recently in NY at 100+ yrs old) and is now a privately-owned bed and breakfast. It is an interesting town and was quite a boom town in it's day. Enjoy your trip to Montana/Wyoming!!

Then come back through Utah. The Golden Promentory is north of Salt Lake. That is where the eastern and western parts of the 1st intercontinental railroad met. Then there's the open pit copper mine on the edge of Salt Lake. Biggest in the world and can be seen from outer space w/o a telescope. The drive down I-15 is gorgeous as it skirts the Watsatch mtns. Then south to I-70 and east to Denver.
