Here's March Temp departures past 10 yrs.

After 6 of 7 ending up below normal (2013-2019) (and snowy), the last 3 yrs temps have been above normal.

Lets see where 2023 ends up

And here's the snowfall total for the Climo sites for March since 2013. Yup... Record snow in some years but its been cold and snowy for the most part except past 3 yrs.

5 of 7 years before 2020 had over 10 inches of snow for the month which is more than the normal for January and February.

Surprise

Nice snowfall over Grupes Reservoir in New Canaan, CT today

Loop past 4hrs. Darker returns(purples) over Southern NY into SWCT helped it stick easier.

Even NYC reported snow but not sure if anything stuck or accumulated.

I just can't see 4-6 here in Bethel, not at the rate of snowfall I'm seeing at the moment.

That’s an anomaly - March has historically outperformed December for cold and snow. Storm of the Century and the 1888 blizzard were both outside of meteorological winter (which is why that term should be retired). We also had a doozy in 2016 - super heavy weight snow that weighed our trees down (and probably totaled 14”).

Despite the dark purples there, Central Park and all the airports only recorded a trace.

But BDR recorded 0.3", more interesting because when the other OKX stations reported slight measurable on Feb 1, BDR only had a trace, so they were only at a trace for the month until today.

March 3, 2023 Storm Update:

Skipping past Tuesdays storm for a second another one is being shown for Friday.

Note the Canadian and German models suppress it way south and we get nothing
GFS brings the storm towards Great Lakes (by now you should know that means rain for us)
Euro has the perfect track for a snowstorm for us, exits Virginia Beach and out

For Tuesdays storm...

For the first time this season, it seems like the storm Monday night will track far enough south - keeping us on the cold (snowy) side.
