Interesting side note about Thanksgiving 1971, even NYC itself got wet snow mixed in and combined with high winds it is the only year to date since it started that the balloons were cancelled for the Macy's parade.

I think 1997 as well though that was not as wintry.

1997 was another exciting October-early December, then blah for most of the winter. Super El Niño. Only real excitement was January 1998 upstate NY, Quebec and Ontario ice-storm.

In 1971 there was a 63mph wind gust

And Thanksgiving 1882 there was almost a foot of snow on the ground.

Thanksgiving 1898 there was 3 inches of snow

Thanksgiving 1938 4 inches of snow

Thanksgiving 1980 sleet storm

Thanksgiving 1989 over 4 inches of snow (I REMEMBER THAT ONE!)

Thanksgiving 2005 Light snow

Thanksgiving 2014 light morning snow showers

Thanksgiving 2018 we woke up to teens and didnt pass 20s. NYC 4th coldest high, 2nd coldest low for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving 1933 it hit 69°
Thanksgiving 2007 it hit 66°

I really think it's tough to pin down what lies ahead by looking at past events and what followed them. Also, in a way, that would take the fun out of never knowing what weather drama lies ahead.

In the short term, I think it's safe bet, that locally (Tri-State area) is about to enter a very dry weather pattern for at least 7 or 8 days if you look at the model runs. The 6 to 10 precip seems to be leaning that way too. I think November 2023 may (?) be a very dry month. NWS Bridgeport has had just .21 in of precip (almost 3/4 inch below normal)....and no precip is forecast in the next six days at least.

So starting Friday, we should be cool(ish) with near 50 F for highs and 30's F for lows (and a fairly COLD night Sunday night), bright sunshine and bone dry weather. Going right through the weekend and into next week. It will be a good time for raking leaves and car washes - lol:

I don't know much about 1882, 1898, or 1938... Though 1980-1, 2005-6,and 2018-9 had their one or two snowstorms (2005-6 was big) they were, on balance, relatively mild winters. I don't remember 2018-9 being exciting after January. 1989-90, after December, was a torch. November is still a pretty good negative indicator.

While it looks like there will be little change in precip in the next 8 days (bone dry and bright sun)...it does look like there is some modest change in temps in the coming 8 days.

A cooler period from today through Monday (highs in the 40's F)...

Monday we struggle to get out of the 40's F:

...then by Wed we are in the 50's F :

...then by next Fri we are in the 60's F...
