As October 2023 comes to a close in just 4 days, and with at least the prospect of cooler temps next week, it’s worth noting that this October was without doubt one of our warmer and drier Octobers in several years. What is more shocking, is that while NWS Bridgeport was warm with many days in the 70’s F, I didn’t think to check NWS Bradley?

NWS Bradley is now running 4.7 F above normal(Bridgeport only 1.6 F above normal)….October 2023 had 4 days with a high of 80 F or higher…and the high of 86 F on October 4th, was the highest October temp in 16 years!. Also, only 3 times in the last 16 years has NWS Bradley had a monthly mean temp of 58 F or higher (not since 2007). There were only 6 days with any measurable rainfall (any!):

Meanwhile....next week, we will struggle to get into the low 50's F in many areas of Connecticut.

Cold Octobers are a bad omen also; Central Park had non-measurable snow October 17, 1972 from a Nor'easter, 2.9" for the winter. October 29, 2011 had about 3-4", and only another 5" or so for the entire winter. Cold Novembers are a bit more mixed as a signal.

I was hoping winter ended with the cool weather a few weeks ago, and that I could trash my winter clothes. Oh well.
