It's for those who got tired of paying crazy fees to the cable company for nothing.

Yup! Kinda funny when I tell Kids you can put an antenna up and get free local tv. They look dumbfounded.

Full circle, right?

I can get WCCT fine, but I was having issues with it not long ago. I moved the antenna, it seems to do best in a west window during the summer. Right now it's in an internal doorway kind of between west and north windows. I've had to do this before.

I use an antenna for locals because I use YouTube TV and save data on locals by using an antenna. I'm only about 7 miles as the crow flies from Rattlesnake Mountain, and am having no issues with receiving the other stations that transmit from there (WEDH/WEDY, WHPX, WVIT, WTIC).

Rattlesnake is home to:

20 (CW)
24 (PBS)
26 (ION)
30 (NBC) *
61 (FOX)

* The channel 30 tower is slightly slimmer and shorter than the other one. For anybody mostly to the east and south of Rattlesnake, their tower appears to be on the left.

Antenna signals are supposed to be less compressed than those from cable and satellite providers, resulting in a higher quality picture, but I can't really tell any difference.

The best thing is that it's free; you also have a backup in case you cable or satellite provider has an outage.

I switched to antenna when we bought a flat screen 4 years ago, so I couldn't tell anyway. When the stations went digital, our image got worse and the edges of the picture were cut off. Plus we'd been getting a lot of digital artifacts before and after the conversion.

What seems to happen now, is the signal gets cut out when a car goes by, when it's in the other window. Some day I'd like to run one out my attic window, which should get me a better signal. Our houses are close together so I assume there's interference from that.

Does anyone know where WVIT channel 30's antenna is? I'm guessing around the Farmington area. Either way it's west of me - I believe my antenna is not pointing that way. Not that I have a lot of options to move it, but maybe even if it was indoors on the second floor, but pointed in the right direction it would be an improvement. Since they did some change to their signal in 2019 I've had trouble receiving them, especially if it's windy.

Channel 3, and surprisingly channel 8 which is about 40+ miles away come in fine. I think Ch. 8's antenna is in Hamden.

WVIT broadcasts from Rattlesnake Mountain in Farmington.

WFSB broadcasts from Avon Mountain.
