The last three photos are awesome. I wonder why I never thought of going up there to take photos of the snowed scenery. Thanks Cambium, if the snow doesn't melt I might do that next weekend.

Did a little hiking locally..

Beautiful morning. Temp was 9°F (-13C).

First thing I didn't like.. way too much foot traffic but then I remembered I didn't travel far outside the population zone around here.

But once in the woods with snow and silence, the outside world was forgotten

Snow depth 10-12" in spots I checked. Trail was packed down and still maybe 4-6" deep. Not common to see the continuation of that for so many weeks now.

River that's moving is freezing over...

Meeting some folks along the way and their dogs. They all were friendly and smiling.

my favorite... no human paths. undisturbed snow other than wildlife tracks. Debris on snow is from the very strong winds we had here yesterday 30-50mph shedding some evergreens!

2 miles of hiking and I forgot my crampons. I was slipping because the trails were so packed and icy. I got hot after 30 minutes.

February 17, 2015.
23 days in a row temps below normal.
Only 7 of those days had temps above freezing.
19 of 23 had temps below 20°
8 of 23 had temps below 10
Not done yet

Cos Cob Harbor facing Long Island this afternoon. Greenwich, CT.

This one just a bit closer to the NY state line still in Greenwich. Greenwich Harbor/Smith Cove.

You can see Long Island better from here.

Lots of photos.

Went for a nice hike this morning in South Central CT. Hamden. The State Park is called Sleeping Giant. 2 hrs of hiking. Burned 400 calories. Temp 17°. Elevation 100-700 feet.

That's the way I like it. Nobody in the lot.

And we begin

Very cool Very high Jagged rocks up ahead

Another look facing the other way, in fact Downtown New Haven is visible from here.

The packed down trail was 6-9" deep. Off the trail I wasn't even hitting surface.. 15 inches + snowpack.

Funny I forgot there were brooks and rivers with this hike. All frozen and covered with snow like here.

There's the Castle

Ready to go in and walk to top..
Spoiler

At the top

Drifting at the top..

Quick video from the top..

Clouds cleared on the way back down...had to take another shot.. I'm guessing had to be 100+ foot vertical high?

What a beautiful day! staying in the 20s again.

LOL Cam, I say the same thing when it's 90+ and I'm sneaking a ride in the woods at some point. Got the whole forest to myself

From the hills to the shore... Great Day.

Icy Waters and a delicate balance. I think I found my pic of the year.

I hadn't seen this. A new pier built after the last one was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. The previous one was nowhere near as wide, long, or strong as this. Sweet!

Although might be too crowded in the warm months for my liking.

Ice Sheets? lol

I see a weather station there. Hmmm, might have to get a hold of the guys there and ask if its online.

Most Ice I ever saw on the Sound. Its as far as the eye can see!! Some pockets still open. Looks like barges way out there in the video. Could they be breaking up the ice????? Can't be!

When I was driving up to the spot I did a double take when I saw this angle.. I was like WHERE IS THE WATER!! It was all white. Ice.

Went to another spot with a small waterfall... First of all...I'm usually hoping over this 2 foot fence. Where is it!?? Had to walk in deep snow to get a nice shot.

Water still falling but its freezing over.
