I didn't comment on schools closing. I specifically stated working from home repeatedly.

I live in extreme SE Hartford County and we had about 2 inches by 7 am this morning, schools closed and roads were slick. Snow was steady through Glastonbury, then I drove into Hartford where there was a dusting on the ground, roads were just wet, and not a flake in the sky. I am guessing 84 is the snow/no snow line.

I think you have to look at what risk is reasonable.

The danger in a snowstorm and especially in an ice storm, is not only that you may have an accident but even worse is what other drivers might do.

For example, a friend of mine last week was stopped at a traffic light on a two lane road and he was rear ended by someone who was driving too fast and slid on ice into the back of him. So even if you do everything safely, you still have to worry about other people's driving skills.

If you can't get to your office in 2 inches of snow (in general, not specifically today), then you should probably rethink living in New England. This isn't Atlanta, no one is cancelling meetings or shutting down offices because you have to clear off your car or driveway. Driving in a couple inches is no more risky than driving in a summer thunderstorm/downpour. Driving is an inherently risky activity. Take it slow, increase following distance, etc.

However, if you are a Nervous Nellie driving in a little snow, I thank you for staying home so the rest of us can get to work in one piece.

I don't think it's a matter of not getting in. I could get myself to work no problem but when you have the option to work from home and keep your car clean and warm in the garage, not have to deal with bad drivers, stay in sweats, and yet still be productive then I see no reason to head out.

I'm home with the baby today but many others are home because schools are closed and they have no alternative but to be home. All I was stating earlier is that if places are going to close/delay/etc. that they should do so by a certain time so that their employees have ample enough time to get other affairs in order or figure out their commutes. Having an office inform you at 8am that they are closing when you have to be in at 9 is unacceptable. Thankfully my place of business (university) makes a pretty good habit of letting us know between 5-6am so if you don't hear anything, it's a normal day.

Just drove from Trumbull to Stamford. 95 was pretty good, actually got to the office in less time then it normally takes because of less cars on the road.

So if you want to stay home, please do! It makes my drive easier!

There's a good 6" on the ground now at the mouth of the CT River - very heavy wet stuff coating trees and surfaces. Snow has stopped for moment. Side roads are a mess.
