I was wondering how accurate the Accuweather month-long forecasts are, so I took a screen shot of the forecast on the first day of February. I'm using Danbury, where Accuweather uses DXR data. Below is the forecasted temps for the month on Feb 1st, then the observed temps below that. The observed temps also match with DXR's data from the NWS. To say the least, their name doesn't live up to their forecasts!

I'll keep this short. Arctic High pressure is stronger to the north then thought days ago. That means southern Stream suppressed south more.

Less than 1/2" and 1/4" precip shown now for us. The trend was real.

Don't mistake the trend and the drier precip for snow amounts.

Even 1/4" precip can yield plowable amounts. (2-4")
GFS shows practically nothing for BDL now.

The further north you are in CT the less you'll get so nothing should be cancelled/delayed north of I-84.

Tough call at coast because 6" is still possible so maybe closings/delays.

High ratios snow = slippery with even an inch!

Look where the 8-10" area is now. Did we get Lucky or Screwed?

A look at the latest NAM, GFS, EURO for Monday 18z time frame. Precip shown is for 7am-1am period.

GFS is the driest for us. NAM is the wettest. In fact NAM showing heavy snow for entire state.

Anyone in dark green or blues is heavy snow. Lighter shades is light snow.

Look at middle frame for northern CT. LOL. DRY!

Anyone north of dotted blue line is snow. Anyone near it is mix. Anyone south of it is rain.

It will also be tough for districts that are still doing the CMT and CAPT state tests this year as next week is when that all begins. For example, I believe Danbury is still doing it this year, whereas Stamford opted to go with the later in the year Smarter Balance test a year early (all CT districts will be on the latter test next year).

Another factor will be whether schools think this is likely to be the last snow day or not. If they are worried about another school day and it looks like the snow will be lighter and end earlier than predicted schools may tempt towards delays over closures.

Great news for those who shovel-- a fluffy 2-5 inches isn't bad on the back.

Also, anyone know where Bridgeport's 32.1" of snow in Feb. ranks? Or their 28.9 deg average temperature for the month?

OKX only seems to rank Central Park on their site, their 31.6 degrees didn't make the top 10, but their 29.0" of snow was the 2nd snowiest Feb. (after 36.9" in 2010, the all time snowiest month ever) and the fifth snowiest month overall.

I believe Cambium posted a graphic a number of pages back that indicated BDR's record for Feb. I know BDR only needed a half inch to be the snowiest Feb as of a week ago, not sure if they got it or not.
