Hi All,

We just recently shifted to Stamford, my husband works here.

I want to travel to Hartford for educational purpose, we don't own a car.

Please suggest on how can I travel from Stamford to Hartford via public transportation?

You will soon learn that CT does not have a great public transit system. Getting from Stamford to Hartford will be difficult and if you are on a class schedule, I would venture to say near impossible. Union station in Hartford has connections to bus routes and trains, but are very limited and if you are coming up here two or three times a week will be very expensive.

It might be easier to switch to an institute in Stamford.

It can be done- Amtrak train to Hartford, then bus from train station to school. This won't be fast and will likely take a better portion of your day. You will lose your mind if you have to do this commute often. If it is a short period of time this has to be done, say one semester to finish your degree, it is doable. If you need to do this for years? Forget it. Transfer elsewhere.

It is a roughly 2.5 to 3.5 hour trip from Stamford to Hartford by public transit. Not worth your while at all.

Just curious, what educational outlets in Hartford do you need access to that can't be attained in Fairfield, Bridgeport, or New Haven with their extensive amount of higher education?

Until the New Haven Springfield rail line gets completed, it's going to be pretty bad. Amtrak runs a couple trains a day from Stamford to Hartford, and greyhound/peter pan probably have a handful of trips between the 2 cities you could use as well. You may be able to pull it off if you only do it once a week, but if you do it any more than that, it'll be torture. Better off getting a car, unless you live on the 95 corridor and work on the 95 corridor (New Haven to Stamford) getting to and from ANYWHERE in CT without a car is damn near impossible.

Western Connecticut in Danbury has a pretty good business school, I'd look to see if they have that class available there. Getting up to Danbury from Stamford via public transportation sucks as well, but at least it's easier than going up to Hartford, and will be significantly cheaper as well.

This is not true really. What state has better public transportation? You likely would first point to New York but you are more likely referring to transit in one metropolitan area (New York City) rather than the over all state. How do you get from a city like Rochester to say Binghampton? Bus, just like here in Connecticut.

The OP is asking how to get from Stamford to Hartford and the answer is the same, bus. Hartford is almost 80 miles from Stamford so of course there is not going to be a lot of mass transit options for someone without a car. A bus trip wold take more than 4 hours though so I am not sure it would be worth it. I know Greyhound has a bus from Stamford to Hartford. There may be others as well. The OP needs to research it further. Jay
