Gonna be commuting to Stamford (Harbor Point) coming from Glastonbury (south of Hartford) for the next few weeks.

With recent construction I've noticed traffic on both Merritt/Wilber Cross as well as I-95 to I-91.

Is one way better than the other during the next few weeks months? Or is each day a roll of the dice?

I find the parkways to be better no matter what. I would definitely avoid I-95through New Haven. Because you are heading for the south end of Stamford, I think you have to get on I-95 eventually. Take the parkway down and listen to the local traffic report as you drive. You can switch over to I-95 easily in Milford on the connector (just before the Sikorsky Bridge) or in Trumbull on Route 8. Then expect traffic all the way to Stmaford. Good luck, Jay

91 south to 15 south to Rt 8/25 south to 95 south in Bridgeport. You don't want to take the Merritt all the way to Stamford since it dumps you off in North Stamford. It can easily take 20-30 minutes to get from North Stamford to downtown or points south.

I've tried the Milford connector, pretty smooth and fast. I'll have to try route 8/25 in Bridgeport and see how it compares. Google has also told me I can get off the Merritt in Norwalk, and get on route 7 to I-95. That involves some backroad travel. If I find a clear winner I'll report back.

Southbound, yes you'll have to navigate a couple miles of city streets in Norwalk. Traveling northbound though, it's a direct shot from the parkway to the Rt.7 expressway to 95.

Because the drive does take awhile, I think another appropriate question is what exits on the Merritt would offer the most convenient restroom options very early in the morning and then afternoon?

If the Mobil stations have public restrooms, I think that would be your best option.

LOL. Big pet peeve of mine for quite awhile now. The only rest stop on the Merritt that has a merge lane is the southbound Fairfield location. All of the rest have stop signs which you're supposed to be able to magically catapult from up to the speed of traffic on the highway. In other words, only a desperate fool will stop at the other 5 rest stops on the Merritt.

You're exactly correct. Those are suicidally dangerous.

I've recently done some temp work in Stamford halfway between the Merritt and 95 and learned that the hard way...

It's possible (since I don't think the OP stated it) that your job is closer to the Merritt than 95 (i.e. on Long Ridge or High Ridge Roads), but assuming not, you can either use the Milford Connector or rt. 7 south in Norwalk. Coming south instead of north the connector is better because the rt. 7 interchange is strange.....coming northbound on the Merritt you can directly get on the rt. 7 south highway but coming southbound on the Merritt it puts you on the street in Norwalk and it can easily take you with some traffic 10-15 minutes to get from that to the actual highway.
