I did not include values outside those 5 mentioned because some are available on one and not other etc. for example I think UCLA website had estimate for miscellaneous personal expenses, which I did not include because it's undefined and no way for me to come up with that # for Uconn. Thus it's 25 and 27 for housing, meal plan, tuition, books, fees. Again, UCLA is worth 50k/year because it ranks up there with all the top 20 private schools, Uconn is not even close (though as an alumni I wish it were)

No, I was quoting the cost of just those items. The others items are flexible and subjective so I did not include them. Jay

All schools these days are expensive.. the other schools in the UC system cost about the same as UCLA, even if they aren't nearly as well regarded. Why? I don't know.

This Wednesday is CT Big Game. Malloy is announcing the budget he plans to give to the legislatures.

Based on what we see does anyone have any expectations? I see increased cost to the wealthier towns for sure. Also some increase fees to the middle class.

Two things I have my eye on is the "mileage tax" and Aetna. Both would be bad.

Malloy is proposing to place a bigger burden on the local towns in his upcoming budget. Will see what it really means. Jay

Its just a way for him to claim that HE didn't raise taxes, while knowing full well that the towns are going to be forced to raise property taxes. He really is the worst.

I agree both would be bad. Just read in yesterday's paper that Malloy wants to eliminate the measly $200 homeowners tax credit (used to be $500) because "everyone has to sacrifice". He all of a sudden seems to be concerned about the state's fiscal condition, now that he knows he is not in line for a federal position. Also I heard Len Suzio (representative from the Meriden area) on the radio this a.m. and he said Malloy is really pushing for the mileage tax. The $300,000 "feasibility study" is in face a study to figure out how to get citizens to accept it. They are thinking about 3 cents a mile, so a person who travels the average 10 - 15 thousand miles a year can expect a tax of $300 - 450. Malloy can't go soon enough to suit me.

I'm fine with a mileage tax if they dump the gas tax. 3 cents a mile would be close to what gas tax is for a 20 mpg vehicle. Make the rate go up a bit for higher GVW vehicles. Record mileage at emissions tests with an average taken every 1/4 and adjusted at odometer checks. Now if they want to add GPS to our cars well then no way. Also keep the gas tax and add this no way.

Yeah this is just shifting a burden from one tax authority to another it doesn't actually solve the problem.
