So many opening, how many are they down, net compared to pre CV?
Westport is a tough market. Slow at night and crazy unrealistic rents...

I am actually writing this while sitting in the (newish) GG & Joe's in downtown Westport. It is a tough market because of very high rents- and landlords who would rather have their buildings sit empty than discount. It's also crazy because the gorgeous Riverfront is where the parking is placed and Main Street itself obscures views of the water.

I do remember a bustling downtown when I was a kid-- especially when we still had movie theaters here. Now, is the closest its felt to the busy, model downtown in recent memory.

Never been a huge fan of downtown Westport compared to many other CT downtowns. Just lacks charm.

Wow, that's a very sad statistic for the future of CT's economic climate.

We normally are very close to the national unemployment rate, and we are now well above it. 1998-2002 is the last time we sustained a rate well below the US average.

The unemployment rate is so high then you have this:

Fairfield Eatery Closed After Owner Couldn't Find Workers

https://patch.com/connecticut/fairfi...t-find-workers

Unbelievable. Politicians are killing small business.

Didn't know there was a Fairfield location but the one over in Norwalk is incredible. The food is decadent but you need an artery cleanse immediately after my God.
I was down in the CT Forum Fox faction's beloved south a few weeks ago in SC. Myrtle restaurants had 1+hour wait times for a table despite being half empty because they couldn't find enough staff to hire to cover the demand for tables. Damons on the beach was one of them. The seafood buffet ones like Crabby Mikes were the only ones without waits. They basically told you seat and help yourself whenever your ready. It was unbelievable.

If he couldn't find help, his other location should be having issues as well. IMHO, he's looking for a scapegoat to blame for the failure of this location that opened just before the pandemic.

Very true, unless he's willing to share his financial and tax info we will never know the real reasons the business closed.
