For the last time, these are just estimates.

They are not based on an actual headcount.

And they should be taken with a grain of Morton's iodized salt.

What you say is accurate. They are, however, from the US Census Bureau so they are a reasonable data point until the next "accurate" census is done.

They could care less what Yale charges so long as they get their "fair share." A new low point, IMO.

The thing about endowments for colleges & universities is they are not blank checks. Most donations come with strings attached. Yale might have $25 billion but that pile will be split up among many different donations that cannot be spent on the same projects.

Example: A prominent Jewish organization could endow Yale with $10 million but the stipulation is it can only be used to advance the interests of Jewish students. Yale could use the money to offer new study courses in Israeli history or built a new synagogue on campus. Yale would not be able to use the money to refurbish a dorm or build a parking garage.

It appears that the Chinese have upped their bid for Stamford based Starwood. Will be interesting to see how rival bidder Marriott reacts. According to this article, it would be questioned by the finance community if Marriott tried to outbid them. We will see. Jay

It also looks like Kleban Properties plans for buying GE's corporate headquarters in Fairfield took a positive step forward by them entering into an agreement with Fairfield University to be part of the high-tech hub proposed for the site. Jay
