^^ This also goes along if you look at the data for states with population on disability benefits. Since those on disability do not count towards unemployment.

State plans to expand Waterbury Metro-North branch

State officials plan to add a second track to the Waterbury branch of the Metro-North Railroad in the coming months, a build-out expected to increase the number of weekday trains on the line from 15 to 22.

As I thought, because of the states vastly improved fiscal picture and next years election, there is more serious talk of a tax cut. Of course this would be welcomed. The question is what taxes do you think should be cut? The most obvious would be the sales tax but would it be more prudent to cut business taxes to help lure more business investment in the state. Thoughts? Jay

The state business tax rate needs to be the first priority. Reduce it sharply.

Sales taxes should NOT be cut, the focus if $ remain after business tax cuts, should be reducing the state personal income tax rates.

Sales taxes are the fairest taxes, as they tax consumption, not productive work.

I agree re business tax cuts, but I don’t think Lamont will even touch that. Democrats would lose their minds.

Politically, it would be a very nice feather in Lamont's hat if he lowered the income tax. Every Republican ran on eliminating or lowering the income tax.

Here's the current CT income tax bracket.

3.00% > $0
5.00% > $10,000
5.50% > $50,000
6.00% > $100,000
6.50% > $200,000
6.90% > $250,000
6.99% > $500,000

Seems like a waste to me. So few use that line. Invest in the main line. Most in the Valley would have no problem driving to Bridgeport or Fairfield Metro for a fast train into Stamford or NYC.

But wouldn’t this help open up the valley for significant development? The towns on the corridor are pretty affordable by western Connecticut standards and Waterbury certainly needs something to help improve it. Jay
