What do you define as a strong school? The way you guys were talking before made it sound like its MIT, Harvard, or Stanford or you are a moron.

For example, what would you call UConn or UMass.. probably the two schools that produce the most college educated workers in CT and MA? Are they idiots who are unworthy of creating anything worthwhile?

Right but strong schools can include places with well regarded niche programs, regional brand recognition, and/or incredible alumni networks... Like UConn, Penn State, Texas A&M or UGA... beyond just the elite top 20 or so. I think what you are disputing is the idea that a standard commuter school is attracting top of the line intellectual talent a la Google, Microsoft etc rather than those seeking more mass market - but still necessary! - professional jobs in education, accounting, and business operations.

You would think the tribes would want the opportunity to add a new casino in Bridgeport. They could put together a solid proposal to maintain their current agreement in eastern Connecticut and add another casino in Bridgeport. That would likely blow away anything MGM could propose there. I guess they feel they have a monopoly now and want to keep it that way. Jay

Also, the March benchmark jobs numbers came out yesterday from CTDOL which show that CT gained 1,800 jobs in 2017. Something like .1% growth which again is among the slowest in the US.

I’ll try to post the link but I’m on my phone.

Only 4 MSA has job growth while the largest and richest Fairfield lost jobs.

This is straight from the CTDOL report.

I do believe the cost of living is too expensive in CT.

They should lower the income tax or do away with it all together. Increase the sales tax. Lower or abolish the gas tax with how much gas here cost. Lower in State community college to $4,000 total and 4 year public college to $30K to $35K a year.

Should have toll roads and legalized marijuana that is taxed. Should eliminate taxing social security. Cap mill rates at 55. Only tax cars once. Continue to have a yearly registration fee though.

They should do away with the Estate Tax in CT.

Have a flat commercial tax. Take away sales tax on clothes.

Why don't you sneak a peek at the state budget and tell us what you would cut? Interest on the debt obligation? Pensions? The 50% of the Medicaid bill affluent states like Connecticut pays? Education for that College-Lite community college? Those total way more than 50% of the budget.

Connecticut has to pay off the 30+ years of bad state government that created the debt and the unfunded pension liability. Once that happens, you can talk about tax relief.

Yes it will never happen due to the debt crisis in the State and taxes will probably go up.
