To make it easier for non weather geeks, watch when these isobars(black lines) start moving into the area. The tighter they are the stronger the winds. .

SPC Hourly Mesoscale Analysis

we RARELY have isobars pushing up from the south.

Thank you for all of your wonderful updates my friend. I've read all 36 pages or so of them, much better than reading 100 pages of comments on Wunderground.com . I only read the main Jeff Master's blog and a few comments. Looking forward to getting more of your updates within the next 36 hours.

Stay safe everyone. Sandy is going to bring epic damage to CT, especially the shoreline. 14ft waves forecasted for Long Island Sound.

OF EVEN GREATER CONCERN IS A SECOND BAND OF FCST 925 MB WINDS OF SIMILAR STRENGTH ON THE SE FLANK OF THE CYCLONE THAT SHOULD ROTATE UP INTO LONG ISLAND...SOUTHERN CT AND POSSIBLY NYC METRO DURING AND JUST AFTER LANDFALL.

.WITH THE STRONGEST WINDS EXPECTED ALONG THE SOUTH SHORES OF LONG ISLAND AND CT WHERE WINDS COULD GUST TO 85-90 MPH. THERE MAY BE A LOW END TORNADO THREAT ACROSS EASTERN CT/LONG ISLAND DURING THIS TIME VIA STRONG LOW LEVEL HELICITY AND DEVELOPMENT OF MARGINAL LOW LEVEL CAPE.

THE COMBINATION OF EVENT DURATION...SATURATED GROUNDS...AND PARTIAL TO NEARLY FULL TREE CANOPIES...WOULD CAUSE WIDESPREAD DOWNING OF TREES AND POWER LINES...CAUSING DISRUPTION TO POWER AND POSSIBLY TRANSIT FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THESE WINDS WILL ALSO RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT COASTAL IMPACTS...DETAILED IN THE TIDES AND COASTAL FLOODING SECTION.

SEAS WILL GREATLY INCREASE SUNDAY WITH THE STRONG WINDS...WITH 25-35 FT OCEAN SEAS POSSIBLE BY MON NIGHT. SEAS UP TO 14 FT EXPECTED ON THE SOUND.

Holy Cow are these people crazy? DH and I crossed this bridge this summer and it is lo-o-o-o-ng. If you tipped off it you'd be a long way from shore.

Wunderground says gusts up to 60mph here in CT. Storm surge of 14-15 ft in Bridgeport. I don't really know the full implications of a 14-15 ft storm surge.
