For those wondering why TS Warnings arent up, NHC explains it. Sandy will transition out of Tropical status losing its warm core but continuing its strength so they are isueing wind warnings instead of Tropical.

Winds gusting to 25mph in Maryland already and 30mph in Virginia. The center is still southeast of North Carolina. LaGuardia is having 26mph gusts. This will be a long duration event. It won't be 3 hours worth like other storms.

It looks like the projected landfall spot has moved slightly northward up the New Jersey Coast to the area around or just to the north of Atlantic City. This puts a little more of the northeastern portion of the Tri-State area (eastern Long Island, Connecticut) into the stronger right-hand side of the cyclone. I tried to zoom in, last night it looked like the landfall was south of Atlantic City:

It looks like overnight they increased some of the warnings as well. There is a Hurricane Force Wind Warning on Long Island Sound and the waters south of Long Island:

The big question now with Sandy is when/where this extratopical transition takes place ? (the link Cam posted above). The newest forecast track and intensity has Sandy making this transition near 39.5 73.7 …or just before the NJ landfall. This position will be about 125 miles due south of New Haven around 5:00 Am Tuesday morning. My guess is that time will be pushed back to 1 to 3:00 am on Tuesday morning as cyclones always move faster when they get close to Long Island. I would think that for those in far southern/coastal Connecticut and on Long island, these will be when the worst of the winds hits - winds 35 to 50 mph with gusts to maybe minimal hurricane force (75 mph)So Sandy will be close to southern Connecticut and Long island and near Cat 1 Hurricane intensity early Tuesday morning. This will likely be when Sandy gets as close to Connecticut as it's going to: .

While I'm not expecting significant damage here, I wonder how all this works with my hurricane deductible on our homeowner's insurance. Does it have to be a hurricane at landfall to trigger that? I should go read.

I've been flipping through the local stations to see what they're saying. Gil Simmons on WTNH put up a graphic showing wind gusts of 90mph for coastal areas.

None of the other stations are saying anything close to that..

Nice detailed post above.

Reports of Sandy pressure down to 951. Thats an insane drop if true. I think thats the lowest pressure inside the storm. But its generally 958mb right now. Crazy.

Just in case you were interested, all models agreeing on a Point Pleasant / Atlantic City Landfall.
