I'm not exactly sure but insurance companies will be busy..Fences will be down all over the place too.
I think Tropical storm counts too. Otherwise its just damage from a storm in general.

None of the other stations are saying anything close to that..

90mph "gust" is possible near the beaches but 70-80mph is more realistic for inland and above 1000 feet. Generally 40-60mph gusts.

Like I said, it will be constantly windy with sideways rain then you'll get that loud gust with popping sounds we are all acustomed too and the gusts will last a few seconds, quiet down, then come back. Sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes in 20 minutes.

I am upping my number of outages to 1.6 million in NY and CT alone and over 600,000 in CT alone.

I would say at least 60 to 75 Mph in Stratford. I think the big issue where you are (Stratford) will be coastal flooding and storm surge.

Paddy surf cam is down...but if anyone want's to keep track of what the waves and seas are doing (without being there), Gligo Surf cam is working (for now). Looks already 4 - 5 foot waves moving in:

Gilgo Surf Cam - Bunger Surf Shop Surfcam of Gilgo Beach Long Island N.Y.

Here comes the Atlantic and it looks like it's in a bad mood...

Im really on the fence about work tomorrow. I probably should just stay home. Im sure I can get there but worried about getting home on Merritt. Cam, you said nobody should be on the roads and I agree 100% but you know how employers can be. How would I know if the governor says to stay off parkways? Or do they not do that? If I remember from Irene, I thought I heard Meritt closed in parts for downed trees....but it was Sunday and I was home anyway. Exit 56 to Westchester is a long way to take a chance........what do you think?

I'm well away(>5miles) from the beach, so the surge doesn't concern me. I was just curious about why one says 90, the others are basically saying top out ~65.

I'm facing the same conundrum. Do i take the Merritt, which is inland, but has tons of trees. Or, do i go 95 which doesn't have the tree issue, but hugs the coastline.

Decisions....Decisions....

There are Hurricane Force Wind Warnings (winds of 75 - mph or higher) on Long Island Sound. So for those in the southern end of the coastal cities/towns (depending on elevation and obstructions) I would say gusts to 65 to 75 -mph are quite likely. However, with that pressure falling (not good news) Sandy could be even stronger...gusts 70 to 80 mph. Really, not much we can do now/plan for more than we have already done...a hell of wind storm is coming in any event...

My advice is work on Monday is a really bad idea. It might be passable in the early morning (maybe)...but by noon you will really wish you were home.

I hope the governor tells people to stay off the roads, which might influence my employer. And I'm not looking forward to finding childcare if the schools are closed for a week again this year.

I would not want to be on the Meritt at all because of the trees. 95 would mostl likely be packed......I dont know what to do......Trees have fallen and killed people without a hurricane. Last year, when Irene died down in the afternoon, we drove to Milford to see the damage......exit 56 to exit 54 south looked like a warzone with branches and a few trees down.

I agree....I guess I will watch the news closer and make a decision tonight.

I doubt 95 will be packed. It seems like most of the schools have already cancelled for Monday and Tuesday. There will be MUCH less traffic than normal.
