Default Temp Update

Just amazing to see that the cold air continues to be stronger than any warmth making it into CT.

That being said... I dont see any warm up till past the end of the month. We might go into May using the heat this year a few times.

So it looks like we'll struggle past 50s all week.

Here's Upton and Boston disussions

Quote:
BEHIND THE FRONT...HIGH PRESSURE WILL START TO BUILD INTO THE REGION WITH CLEARING SKIES AND DRIER WEATHER. A SECONDARY COLD FRONT WILL PUSH ACROSS THE REGION TONIGHT USHERING IN A CANADIAN CONTINENTAL POLAR AIR MASS. EXPECT UNSEASONABLY COLD TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE REGION WITH MOST TEMPERATURES FALLING TO 32 DEGREES OR LOWER ACROSS THE SUBURBS AND
RURAL AREAS.

LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
REGION REMAINING IN BETWEEN WESTERN ATLANTIC RIDGING AND DEEP BROAD CONTINENTAL US TROUGHING THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE PERIOD. UNSEASONABLY COOL TEMPS ARE EXPECTED UNDER A STRONG EASTWARD BUILDING CANADIAN HIGH.
Quote:
WEST-NORTHWEST FLOW CONTINUING YET GRADUALLY DYING DOWN AS CONDITIONS GRADUALLY CLEAR. EXPECTING TEMPERATURES TO FALL DOWN TO THE FREEZING MARK WITH LOWS INTO THE UPPER 20S ACROSS THE CENTRAL INTERIOR AND HIGHER ELEVATIONS. SHOULD SHELTERED VALLEY LOCALES
BECOME CALM...THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR EFFECTIVE RADIATIONAL COOLING ALLOWING COLDER CONDITIONS. THE EXPECTATION FOR IS A VERY DRY COLUMN EARLIER IN THE DAY CONTINUING OVERNIGHT...SO HAVE LOW EXPECTATIONS FOR FOG
It's crazy to see some trees still not blooming and shrubs not flowering. We're about 2 weeks behind

Although we might not see 70’s in Connecticut like we did on Friday for the last week of the month…temps still look close to normal for most of the week 55 to 60 F.

However, we should not forget that late April can turn the table quickly: Today marks the dates when many of the record early hot days hit in the 1950’s. On this day in 1952, NWS Bridgeport hit 84 F (keep in mind how relatively cool the Atlantic/LIS is in early spring)….while NWS Central Park hit 88 F. On April 21st, 1957 NWS Bridgeport hit 85 F ….and on April 23, 1952 NWS Bridgeport hit 79 F. In fact for the rest of the month, there is only 3 dates (April, 23, 24, 30th) that NWS Bridgeport has not cracked 80 F on the date. ON April 28, 1991 NWS Bridgeport hit 91 F….and there were reports of 100 F temps away from the coast in CT/NY/NJ.

In any event, dry conditions and sunshine expected at least till Tue/Wed when showers pull through. Temps in the 55 to 60 F range should make for a perfect weather weekend.

But the fact is the AVERAGE high is over 60 at this point and we may not see it all week.......of course it can be 80 (and even on rare occasion 90) this time of year but it can just as much be 40 or on rare occasion 30 in the morning too.....

I think that might be an error: The normal (or AVERGAE) high right now is 58 F at NWS Bridgeport....and they should be within 2 - 3 F +/- of that today and in the coming days.

In terms of spring....the prevailing vigorous nonperiodic weather element results in alternating advections of cool air and warm air …it just goes with the territory of the lower middle and middle latitudes.

Also, I don’t know about all NWS stations or regions, but this April has been typical at many NWS stations in the Tr-State area: I think what we are seeing is that the very cool March as been what has slowed down the progression of spring. Otherwise, you can see, temps pretty typical stuff for April. The normal April high in Central Park is 62 F…and the normal low 44 F. We had days in the 70’s and days in the 40’s.

Yup. Normal highs are into the 60s this week for PA, NYC metro and into CT.

Here's the daily normals for BDR and BDL Jan through July from NOAA.
SERCC NOAA NOWData

Mid 60s for BDL towards the end of this week. Whats funny is, even if we were just in the 60s, it would feel chilly for some at the end of April most people expect 70s. Just amazing we cant sustain any 70s still.

Todays normal highs across the NorthEast.

Data output for Danbury from latest GFS. As one who follows this religiously its just amazing to see temps continue like this past 7 days.

For translation purposes..

0 Celsius = Freezing mark (32 degrees)
10 C = 50 degrees
20C = 68 degrees

Notice not a lot of 20C showing up until May 2nd. Lots of 11s and 12s which means 50s.

Notice the -0.1C there. Thats for tonight to get down to freezing.

Also notice, not a lot of rain being shown either.

Of course this is one run and subject to change especially long range..

Nice map from them finally that goes outside their coverage area. Wish they would do that all the time. Nice color table and map clarity which includes all locations.
