"USC is a leader in sustainability. The university was named to the 2013 Green Honor Roll, receiving the highest possible score on Princeton Review’s “Green Ratings.” It was the only university in South Carolina and was one of two universities in the Southeastern Conference to earn the top ranking."

I noticed the renovated building the other day. I have always liked it anyway, but bringing an old building up to 'green' status is exciting.

USC will go completely smoke-free in January. The university will welcome a record-size freshman class of 4,900. I didn't want to create a new thread for this.

Default Starbucks outdoor smoking ban more significant

But as overall smoking rate drops from 20% towards 15% there will eventually be smoking on patio bans which is common in the northeast. Nonsmokers deserve to enjoy patios too and as we are soon to be an overwhelming majority in Columbia as well watch for a citywide patio smoking ban by 2016.

I'm all for it. When I'm in my yard I can smell cigarette smoke from three houses up on my block when someone is on the front porch smoking, and my sinuses do not like it.

I like the last sentence about an upcoming gift announcement which will be one of the largest in the campaign. I am not sure but, I think the Nephron owners gave $30m, would be nice to see something in that neighborhood. Based on the math, it looks as if Carolina will blow by he $1b target.

Just saw where 10% of the freshman class is from Charlotte. Outside of Wake, Carolina is the largest major research university close to Charlotte, great to see the links between Charlotte and Carolina growing. Charlotte, Atlanta and NYC also have the largest alumni populations outside of SC.
