Here’s the attached agenda

I can imagine that the Richland Mall Developer is going to need every day of that time period to make that project work..given of the current economic challenges...Anyway.. I hope it happens

It’s possible part of the time leniency could be due to whatever lease Belk has, I’ve read that Barnes & Noble is under a short term lease but Belk is longer.

Richland County deferred final approval of this item until 10/18 to clear up some contract language.

I wonder what Belks is going to do? Just consolidate at Columbiana Center? I cant see them going anywhere else in the Midlands. Barnes and Noble on the other hand has options. Who knows maybe BullStreet District as part of a future apartment building.

The redevelopment of Richland Mall gives me hope for Dutch Square.. It may not have the same income demographics as Richland Mall but it is in a high traffic and very accessible location for mixed use multi family and townhomes much like was done in Forest Acres at Cardinal Crossing. Dutch Square is in the City of Columbia.. but I doubt this current City Administration has the appetite to offer any incentives to make something happen there... but who knows.

Dutch Square is in such a run down area. They would have to revitilize the area and not just the mall proper. There are gas stations just across Broad River with bars on the windows. Not a good look and would not encourage anyone to dump millions of dollars into the mall.

I don’t see much hope for Dutch Square or Columbia Mall (outside of becoming a governmental hub). The fact that Transitions just bought an office building next to Dutch Square for a new homeless shelter doesn’t help its chances of redevelopment anytime soon.

Wow.. I wasnt aware of Transitions was moving out there. That certainly could change the dynamics out there. The area used to be quite vibrant in my youth...80s and 90s but that seems like lightyears ago now...SMH

Yeah.. the neighborhoods surrounding Dutch Square seem to be quite stable.. Atleast Elm Abode is that way.. Those multi family areas that line I-20 seem somewhat suspect.. I saw a few units boarded up from the highway which would seem to signal that that complex may be in decline

It appears there is another planned mix used development with residential apartments planned for the block bounded by North Main, Sumter, Scott and Elmwood. Behind where Mains Best was recently located before being shut down. According to documents submitted to Planning Commission it would consist of 54 Apartments and office space.

I wonder if said development help assist with the closure of Mains Best? I am sure that developer was likely not a fan not to mention others in the surrounding area.

Actually it’s a 101 unity development with a small office component, I was only looking at one building.
