Nothing like a Wal-Mart to bring out the shopping local vs chain arguments on here.
I teach at a relatively prestigious women's college and my students hate Wal-mart. Nonetheless, I am having them do a project addressing a food desert in our area by creating a market study based on a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market concept. I think Wal-Mart is one of the few retailers that will address the food desert in urban areas. The students have had to confront the fact the Wal-mart does contribute to localities in many ways. I'd like to get my hands on the market research that the developer did on these two stores.
Now it's up to three new Walmart markets. Another one will be on Stantonsburg Rd., near the WilcoHess at the town's edge. I'm sure there'll be a couple more eventually...
Pitt County Schools will continue the bidding process for a surplus bus garage after the school system received an upset bid.
Elliot Greer with Greenville Nissan entered a bid of $1,987,175, beating out the former bid of $1,892,500 from Ward Holdings LLC before the deadline Wednesday.
The 15.79-acre property at 901 Mall Drive has an assessed property value is $2.5 million, $2.25 million with demolition and a $2.9 million tax value, according to school system officials.
The school system will advertise the sale again beginning Sunday through March 19. It must go through a 10-day period without qualified bids.
Officials said the final bidding appears to have come down to Ward Holdings LLC and Greer, as no other entities have presented bids on the garage.

Any have an idea about where they might mount the new video boards in Minges now that we have an exact size? Why would there be a height difference between the two panels? Seems like these boards would be too big to fit in the same space as the current projectors without some reconfiguring in the corners. Y'all think there would be still be a possibility to mount them from the ceiling?
Any progress forward is a good thing. On the way downtown to the greenway on Monday I noticed all of the new projects and it was really encouraging to see all of the different projects going on in person. Uptown Greenville sure is going in the right direction!
RST Fiber announced plans to bring 1-gigabit/second service to Raleigh within the next two months. They plan to charge $99/month.
After searching around, I was very surprised to see this company has laid down 3,000-miles of fiber optic cable throughout the state.

I am VERY INTERESTED to see how long it would take for service to come online in the east.
