The next area in Wilmington of development is next the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge. Council just signed off on a mixed use residential project on the river called Proximity. This former industrial area is an ideal location for a riverfront stadium so it will be interesting to see where the development "opportunities" go, now that the amphitheater is built and successful. Wilmington could bookend its downtown with those two projects, and have the Riverwalk connect them.
I love this idea for Wilmington. I think you're suggesting the area just south of the bridge where near waterline brewery? That would be fantastic!
Wonder what this will mean for the league. I can certainly see some moving of a couple of teams to larger markets like Greenville.
This is a good thing, CBC runs the Durham Bulls extraordinarily well. I think having them at the helm is a huge boon for the CPL and with their prior interest in having a team in Greenville this is a (hopefully) a positive omen!
Only problem is now they're starting on the Memorial Drive section first. They were supposed to start at Reade Circle but now that section between Reade and 14th Street will be delayed even more.
that whole shopping area never really took off from the moment the theater was built.
To be honest, that style complex could have worked west of the Hospital...where there was a lack of retail options and entertainment. You have grad school kids there. Or further down Memorial in Winterville.
What was their market in that spot? It was too far from ECU. Winterville folks can go down Firetower to the other one. And it was out of the way for the folks in the Hospital area.
They can blame Regal or Covid, but the reality is the location. There are a whole bunch of empty retail spots there to prove that.

Lack of retail? Kohls, Lowes, Dicks, Academy sports, Food Lion, Hobby Lobby, Pet Supply Plus, and Hobby Lobby are all right there by the movie theater. I bet if anything it's the rent of this development.
