The old brick is goregous! Why we ever hid that, I'll never understand. Looking forward to seeing this complete--even if I wish it were private business going into this space rather than a tax-exempt public entity. We need those revenues downtown.
Needed because of all of the suicide middle lanes in Greenville. City needs to continue to push for actual medians with turn lanes.
The city is. As more state-owned roads come up for redesign/realignment, they're being added. Ryan Purtle, the city Transportation Planner, is vehemently against suicide lanes.

I like the idea of ECU offices being downtown. Adds day foot traffic and there are still plenty of buildings that need improvement and we need to push retail toward Evans. We just saw StillLife and SupDogs do major investments...and the Theater will draw people towards Evans. The ECU offices will just be walked BY when you go downtown on your way to the businesses.
We have to stop thinking of downtown as the corner of 5th and Cotanche. Its SO MUCH Bigger than that. Its Dickinson Ave. Its the Town Common. There is so much room for improvement, ECU rehabbing this building is a nice aesthetic win for downtown Greenville...and keeps the momentum going.
^ these things are ugly & I mean UGLY....but I'll take ugly for now to prevent boneheaded drivers from causing accidents.
Glad this is being done. I wish they would do this on 10th / Hwy 33 by Ollies & such. That area is so terrible!
I have to agree with you! These things are hideous so wish they were permanent medians but I agree too that 10th / 33 by Ollies is in desperate need of something. Not another light. But something. It's incredibly dangerous and I've been in 2 wrecks there....neither my fault. Too much chaos in one small space.
I just walked past this and saw it in person. Holy cow! That looks amazing!
Does ECU own that building now?
I'm assuming it the same deal that ECU has with the Office of the Registrar next door. They lease the building for a set number of years.
Does the Stop Shop own that building? I sure wish they'd invest like a dollar or two in their facade. Sup Dogs looks nice, the least the Stop Shop could do is try to upgrade their outside to match Sup Dogs.....and please take than damn ugly old sign down from the parking lot.
