Interestingly, PAC Thermal, unlike Cleveland Thermal, doesn't appear to supply chilled water for cooling during summer months. I wonder why. If PAC Thermal never offered chilled water, buildings obviously were constructed with their own, independent chillers and cooling systems.

If not, and Cleveland gets this built we could be light years ahead of many cities with this immense advancement to our central business district infrastructure. I can just imagine many more hi-rise towers being built to house companies that could ultimately flock to Cleveland.

Wishful thinking? Probably so, but it's nice to IMAGINE what our city could become in the not too distant future.

There are many cities with microgrids. It a popular trend among cities out west who need a more resilient power source in the hot summer heat among other reasons. There is actually a whole website dedicated to microgrids, check it out:

Also, you'll see Cleveland is featured for this project on the welcome page:

Ohio City is not only the second-fastest growing area of Cleveland, it is also one of the fastest growing and most sought after urban neighborhoods in America!

Much more large-scale development is forthcoming ...

Thanks for posting. Can't give you more rep currently.

Buried in the article is a statement that New York investors have increased their interest in Cleveland real estate projects.

PBS is running a series called "Sinking Cities." The first episode featured New York City. I was surprised to learn that NYC is building a 15-foot sea wall around Manhattan.

My thought is that if fossil fuel consumption is not cut back drastically in the coming decade, 15 feet likely will not be enough, and perhaps building a sea wall of sufficiently needed size is impossible. Surely, sophisticated NYC investors are contemplating this possibility.

Harold Wanless is the chairman of the geological sciences department at the Univ. of Miami and an expert on sea level rise. He anticipates a 15-foot sea level rise by 2100, and perhaps much more.

If we managed to trigger an accelerated thawing of the massive frozen methane deposits in the Arctic tundra and deep ocean methane clathrate, we may experience a vicious methane feedback loop which could raise global temperatures and ice melt at much higher rates than currently. Methane is 80 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. See post 26 in this thread.

Also, I thought these pictures were interesting showing the development of the "uptown" neighborhood.

Its good to see Clevelands continued building of density around the BRT health line and red line rapid. Along with big sense projects around the w25th st station in Ohio city/westside market and "duck island" neighborhoods.
