It was above average but not too hot...there were no triple digit heat waves...couple days made it into the mid 90s maybe but on average we were mostly in the 80s. I enjoyed this past summer...except a few of the days I wanted to go to Edgewater, by the time I got there, they weren't letting more people in because they were keeping the crowds low for social distancing purposes. I love taking my mom's dogs there on warm days.

Default Snow accumulations

See post 17 in this thread for a discussion of Cleveland's diminished winters, especially of snow accumulations and annual snowfall totals.

Default Much warmer Septembers?

In recent years, daily September highs in Greater Cleveland have been much higher than I remember from the past, with beach weather well into September. I believe it's a function of Cleveland falling subject to fronts from the South as opposed to the North as rapid warming continues in the Arctic.

See average temperatures for September in the following link. Note that no day in September has an average temperature high above 80 degrees, and by late September the average high falls below 70 degrees. I believe that these averages are for the last 30 years, and that earlier 30-year periods were even cooler.

https://weatherspark.com/m/18154/9/A...-United-States

Compare with September 2021, with a high above 85 degrees F. forecast for tomorrow and highs above 80 degrees F. forecast for Sept. 20 and 21. Note 10 days recorded or forecast with highs above 80 degrees, and three with days at or above 85 degrees:

https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/cl...weather/350127

Admittedly, September 2020 was more normal, but there were 10 days with temperatures of 80 degrees or above.

https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/cl...0127?year=2020

These warmer Septembers are remarkable given the much shorter days and the fact that the sun is at a lower angle in the sky over Cleveland than during the summer. We lose over an hour of daily sunlight in September.

See this thread for a discussion of how Arctic Amplification is impacting Cleveland weather. We mostly discuss the warmer, less snowy winters, but it also is impacting other seasons.

https://www.city-data.com/forum/clev...east-ohio.html

These warmer autumns also are impacting Lake Erie, keeping the lake warmer into the year, and delaying freezing, if it now occurs at all. Lake Erie's temperature today is 73 degrees F., compared to a mean of 69 degrees F. and a reported range from 1981 to 2005 of 66 degrees F. to 71 degrees F. That's a massive change in heat content.

As I’ve posted, I returned to NE OH after 30+ years away.

I’m blown away by how much the weather patterns have changed here, if this summer is any indication.

Mid to late Sept was always the window where you shifted into consistently pleasant highs (60s/70s) and crisp lows (football weather). Just like your historical data links suggest.

As I look at the current extended 14 day forecast, everything is above “normal”, with many days continuing in the mid+ 80s, as you’ve noted. Humidity also higher. 88-deg tomorrow? C’mon, geez.

Personally I think “historical” data is becoming less meaningful, if not useless.

My wife is new here, and I’ve already stopped trying to offer my perspective on weather. I’ve been proven wrong almost every time.

I don’t think this is a statistical anomaly. Things are different, certainly from my experience 30 years ago.

Don’t get me wrong, still love it here.

It does seem very warm this September and the forecast is more of the same. Global warming cannot ignored.

I don't know, my birthday is late September. It's always been warm most of September until my birthday, where it could go either way. I remember home games at OSU in the early season just wearing shirts and a t shirt, having no issues pre-gaming on patios. It is still summer, after all.

The first week of September was incredibly mild actually.

2021 will likely be the warmest in recorded history globally, if the next few months play out in a similar fashion. The urban heat island has gotten so insane and extreme in Louisville that temperatures didn't even get below 80F at 11 PM at night for large chunks of the summer- not that much cooler in outlying areas with more tree cover.

Default Last 80 F. plus high temperature day of 2021

Based on the Accuweather forecast for the rest of September and October, today, 9/20, should be the last day of 2021 with a high temperature of 80 degrees or more, although tomorrow may be close with a forecast high of 79 degrees F. in Cleveland.

Study says ‘specific’ weather forecasts can’t be made more than 10 days in advance

If there is another day in 2021 with a high of 80 degrees plus, hopefully I or someone else will record it. I just wanted to mark what appears to be the last 80-degree day of the year while thinking about it.

BTW, the WP article is behind a paywall so I couldn't read it.
