"I spent the day in Cleveland one afternoon" is not a Cleveland joke. It originated as a vaudeville joke by comedians who would say that about any town in which they were performing. They would say, "I spent the day in (fill in the blank) one afternoon," depending upon in which city they were performing.

Usually they would have a partner who would ask, "What did you do?"

the response would be, "I don't remember, I was too busy doing nothing," or something silly like that.

I loved the article.

Aaaaand..... The second prize is TWO weeks in Cleveland!

They forgot the joke about the "Full Cleveland" look... white belt, white shoes, and polyester suit in pastel colors... or something like that.

There is so much to do in Cleveland. My Toronto family visits at Christmas time because that's the only time everyone is free the same week. They are trying to coordinate their vacation times so they can come in the spring or summer when there is so much outdoor stuff to do.
They've done lots of things in the winter but they miss a lot not being able to come during the warmer seasons. Hopefully some day it will happen.

Don't forget about the defensive rose-colored glasses people, the homers, the non-stop "my city is awesome and the faults need to be downplayed while I stick my head in the sand" people have too thin a skin about any perceived slights about their town.

I love Cleveland. Like I love nowhere else on earth. But the jokes are just as funny. And c'mon, many ARE true. And based on good historic reasons. This city was worth laughing at for a while, and still is, great orchestra or not.

And the fact the article was written for a paper as "far away" as Youngstown validates the fact that the "gob-smacked" reporter needs to do what most other NE Ohians should do: travel more than five miles from their driveway and see the good stuff that they had no idea about, right under their noses.

And how cool is Cle having a fashion week?

You have to realize that often when someone tries to say something positive here about Cleveland the same jokers come forth with a negative comment just to be annoying. They are just a bunch of sourpusses who wouldn't be happy living in a gold palace in The Elysium Fields. So sometimes it's fun to call them out.

Mostly I ignore them, sometimes I don't. Depends on what mood I'm in.

I don't know if anyone has posted this one yet but it's a nice one too.

One of the the things that attracted me to Cleveland when I wanted to leave Portland was Cleveland's great theater scene.
