A Dallas police officer investigating the fatal shooting of a teenager Saturday was struck by a car and attacked by a dog, but escaped serious injury in both incidents.

Shortly after 1 p.m., police responded to a shooting call in the 1800 block of Park Avenue, near South Ervay and Hickory streets in South Dallas. There they found 17-year-old Sergio#&160;Garcia shot.

He was taken to Baylor Medical Center of Dallas, where he was pronounced dead.

A motive in the shooting remained unclear, but witnesses described a vehicle that may have been involved.

About 2 p.m., patrol officers pulled over a vehicle matching the description in the 3500 block of Havana Street. Officers detained the driver and were standing next to the car when another vehicle struck one of them.

Officers, including the one who was hit, followed the driver and saw her go into her house two blocks away in the 3500 block of Dunbar Street. The officer who had been struck was behind the house when a dog attacked him.

He shot the dog, which was injured and taken away by animal control officers. Again, the officer wasn’t injured.

The woman, 43-year-old Teresa Graves, was arrested inside the house and will be charged with failure to stop and render aid, police said.

Detectives were interviewing witnesses in the shooting, but it was unclear if any arrests were made.

As of Sunday, 08/22, 83 police officers have been killed this year in Ciudad Juarez.

On a side note, 72 bodies were found in a mass grave in the Mexican state of Taumalipas yesterday.

Whatever young.

Now we're changing it up, "average" huh?

Just admit you don't know what you're talking about. Prince George's has a population close to 900,000, it has less murders than D.C. proper which is a population of 599,000. I'm not excusing the count but if it were a city it would be considered safe and the rate is dropping.

Unlike the other parts of the region, it has to deal with the spill over from D.C. That side east of the anacostia has always been neglected since D.C. was formed. No shiny office buildings or monuments line the streets just purposely built projects and dilapidated shopping centers.

I was speaking in general about the notion that these "murder rates" hold weight. Like is NYC really 3 times as safe as DC? Heck no, are you serious (I'm just using both as examples).

That "rate" stuff doesn't make sense to me.
I couldn't agree with you more about that. That most dangerous junk is what fuels that kind of nonsense. Do you really think that Minneapolis is more dangerous than NYC? Hell no!!! But according to those clowns it is, year in, year out.
