I just have to say that I think Chicago may rival NYs downtown and may even be better because Chicagos downtown isn't filled with ads everywhere like NY is, but my props go to NY. I think LA's downtown should be somewhere in the middle of this list. Especially for a city that size its downtown is horrible!
How does that make it better? To me it makes Chicago's downtown less visually interesting/stimulating. Look at Tokyo's Ginza - it's a feast for the senses, partly because of all the massive neon ads.

Seems more like a huge distraction and migraine instigator to me. Less clutter, more clean and green. If Chi doesn't have all the ads everywhere that NYC has, then my take is like mattywo85 that it's a plus for Chi.

But those signs and neon lights is what gives an area/city a sense of vibrancy, something Chicago lacks.

I don't have any problem with "green space", but I don't think it belongs downtown for the most part. Adjacent to downtown is fine, but IN downtown? Green lawns scream suburbia to me.
